Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Metrology Technicians are skilled operators and interpreters of data collected with state-of-the-art โ€œ3D portable metrology technologyโ€. This equipment includes accurate portable coordinate measuring machines (C.M.M. arms), laser trackers, probes, optical scanners, and associated measurement and post-processing software. Capability with other reverse engineering equipment is expected. This position provides services and efficiency gains to internal stakeholders and offsite customers of RMS.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Quality Assurance / Inspection / Data Analysis:

  • Reverse engineer turbomachinery components / assemblies using portable metrology technology, traditional metrology tools (micrometers, comparators, etc.), positive material identification (X.R.F. analyzers), and portable hardness testers.
  • Provide clear and thorough inspections that can be post-processed and converted into preliminary 3D models or 2D CAD representations.
  • Understand and apply Form-Fit-Function, Geometric Dimension & Tolerancing, and other drafting best practices when reverse engineering, analyzing, and modeling components.
  • Perform inspections at RMS facilities or customer sites for maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO) services, assembly clearances / alignment purposes, machine tool setups, and quality checks.
  • Generate reports that document inspections executed and summarize results for internal / external customers.
  • Retain inspected information in accordance with company procedures within digital database software and network folders.
  • Assist with portable metrology asset management โ€“ maintenance, calibration recall, storage, security, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Be committed to safety excellence and comply with safety requirements.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Minimum of two (2) year degree in engineering or related technical field is preferred.

Knowledge, Skill Requirements & Previous Experience:

  • Proficient in inspection software such as Polyworks, Inspire, Spatial Analyzer, or equivalent.
  • Competent in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of machining practices and processes.
  • Patience, thoroughness, and attention to technical detail.
  • โ€œTrainabilityโ€ โ€“ willingness and strong ability to learn and to be trained.
  • Professional and positive oral / written communication and interaction skills with RMS coworkers and RMS customers.
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical traits.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Outlook, Power Point & Word

OTHER INFORMATION

  • This is a full-time position working out of our Bethlehem, PA or Houston, TX USA facilities.
  • Travel is projected to be up to 50%.
  • This is full-time position requires a minimum of 40 working hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required based on company needs.
  • This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.
  • Capable of completing customer site-specific safety training (e.g., BOP+) and security credentials (e.g., TWIC)
  • Able to understand, read, write, and speak English.
  • US Citizen / Permanent Resident of the United States with a valid state issued driverโ€™s license.
  • Must be able to legally work in the USA and provide proper documentation.
  • Possession of a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or the ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC as a condition of employment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 LBS. with assistance, walk, climb, reach above head, and balance.
  • Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals including aluminum, bronze, copper, and various grades of steel.
  • While performing duties of this position, the employee will be required to stand and walk for significant portions of the working hours.
  • Must be able to use hands for component manipulation and equipment / tool usage.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be expected to work both in an office environment and in a shop or field service environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts. While the work area may be described as generally clean, safe, and "not loud", there will be machining operations that generate moderate noise and metal particles. Employee will, at all times abide by RMS and/or customer safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while in these areas.
