The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.

This recruitment is being used to create an eligibility list that will be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur. The Maryland Transit Administration is seeking an experienced Assistant Superintendent Transportation professional working in the Transit field. The incumbent performs Assistant Managerial level of work directing and coordinating the day-to-day transportation services of a Maryland Transit Administration division.

The selected employee will assist in directing the planning and development of methods to effectively utilize bus, light rail, metro, or mobility operators. The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for assigning equipment and personnel to meet all operating requirements in accordance with all established MTA practices, policies, and procedures. The incumbent directly supervises dispatchers, starters, operators, technical, professional employees, and subordinate Transportation Supervisors.

The Assistant Superintendent work is performed in an office setting and receives managerial supervision from a Superintendent Transportation or other designated officials. The incumbent is required to periodically travel and work outdoors at various locations throughout the MTA service area. This position is located in Baltimore City, Maryland.

Qualifications MINIMUM QAULIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: Five (5) years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a mass transit system and/or related operations that required the resolution of operational problems related to scheduled service, equipment failure, equipment maintenance, inclement weather, or other service disruptions. One (1) year of the required experience must have involved supervisory or program management responsibilities.

* Candidates must be able to clearly demonstrate their specific work experience as it relates to the minimum qualifications noted.* If you indicated veteran status on your application, you must submit your DD-214 along with the completed DTS-1 (application). Notes: 1. Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education

2. Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to four years of the required non-supervisory experience. 3.

Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. 2.

Employees in this classification who are assigned to Field Operations (Bus Transportation) will be assigned duties that require a valid State of Maryland Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with a Passenger (P) endorsement. Additional Information 1. Employee may be subject to being on call 24 hours a day and may be required to maintain a reliable communication link for the purpose of emergency call-back requirements.

2. Employee may be required to work shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends 3. Employees in this position are considered "Essential Employees" and will be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.

4. Employees in this classification are subject to pre-employment drug testing and substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49 - Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules, and Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. Managers should foster a positive safety culture by leading with integrity and establishing departmental safety practices and procedures for all employees

Managers should attend and participate in safety meetings and adhere to and enforce all safety rules, policies, regulations, and personal protective equipment requirements to support a safe and healthy working environment. Ensure employees are properly trained and provided with personal protective equipment to conduct their job functions in a safe manner. Report hazards, unsafe acts, near misses, injuries, and accidents immediately to the Office of Safety.

Collaboratively work to mitigate reported hazards in a timely manner. Conduct safety risk assessments and/or job hazard analyses as needed. To support a safe and healthy work environment, employees must refrain from willful violations of safety rules and procedures, reckless and negligent behavior, involvement in criminal activities, and the misuse of drugs or alcohol.
