Job description

Methodist Hospital is looking to hire a Surgery Aide to join our surgical materials team!  Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day. 

Position Summary:

Assists operating room personnel to provide an environment that is clean and safe for patient care. Responsible for knowing supply inventory in Case Cart and OR Core areas. Stocks surgery department with sterile and non-sterile supplies. Works to supply the OR with supplies and equipment needed for cases. Maintains a collaborative, service-oriented relationship with OR Materials staff, OR staff and surgeons. Stocks case carts with sterile supplies for Surgery. Print out scheduled case from Surgery IT System. Follow procedures and work standard for taking supplies off shelves. Follows procedures for add-on cases and items not filled. Responds to the need for disposable items in emergency situations and sends to the OR. Maintain knowledge of supply inventory in the case cart area and identify by name and location. Stocks department with sterile and clean supplies. Maintain cleanliness of work area (Case Cart Area). Demonstrates understanding of customer needs and assumes responsibility to meet them. Maintains good communication skills, uses courtesy and helpful attitude on telephone or intercom with OR and other areas of the hospital.

Work Schedule:

  • 1.0 FTE
  • Monday - Friday
  • 0700 shift

Required Qualifications:

  • 6 months of patient care experience required
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated understanding of principles of sterile processing and materials handling
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate preferred
  • Surgical materials handling preferred
