About the Role:
The Line Locator Technician reports to the Project Manager at Bermex. This position plays a key role in detecting and locating underground utility lines and pipes. This position also requires high physical activity, excellent attention to detail, and exceptional flexibility day to day.
***Salary Transparency: For those residing in NY, the pay rate for this position is at $25/hour. ***
What You’ll Do:
Line Locating:
  • Receive work tickets from the 811 system.
  • Read and interpret utility maps showing underground utilities.
  • Use magnetic sensing equipment and maps (Sure-Lock Utility Pro) to identify the location of underground utility lines and pipes.
  • Use color coded spray paint is used to mark the location and type (Electric, water, gas, telephone, etc.) of underground line.
  • Work in various weather conditions and use shovels necessary to pin-point the location of underground utilities.
  • Follow strict Utility, State and Federal guidelines for Utility Line Marking.
  • Provide records of work performed using a digital camera and laptop.
Team Collaboration:
  • Participate in safety meetings.
  • Provide timely reports and documentation to management per procedures.
  • Escalate issues and questions to Supervisor per procedures.
  • Report customer, equipment and vehicle issues immediately.
Customer Communication:
  • Refer all consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities.
  • Provide general information about utility lines or pipes to customers, when applicable.
  • Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About You
Must haves:
  • Education: None. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Experience: No experience necessary, employees will be trained. Upon hire, the candidate will need to complete and pass all Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Nice to haves:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: 1 or more years of experience in line locating.

  • Ability to multi-task, and work independently and as a team.
  • Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and scheduling.
  • Adequate time management skills to finish work in a timely manner.
