Do you enjoy solving problems, working with maps and technical drawings, and seeing your work make a visible impact throughout the community? In this role, you'll support a variety of permitting, mapping, and engineering projects while collaborating with departments, the public, and technical staff. What You'll Do
Review and process permit applications while maintaining permit records and technical
documents.
Read, interpret, verify maps, site plans, proof of ownership, sketches, electronic signatures, and related technical information.
Research, compare, and validate data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Verify property locations, service areas, contractor bonding, and permit requirements using maps, County records, and department procedures.
Utilize department-specific and County software applications, including CAMS, to enter, manage,
query and maintain permit records and technical data.
Communicate with County departments, contractors, residents, and members of the public
regarding permit applications, payments, mapping information, and technical requirements.
Assist with permitting activities involving soil erosion, drain, water meter, and sewer, depending on assignment.
Provide technical assistance by researching permit history, interpreting maps, processing
applications, calculating water meter fees, and responding to customer inquiries.
Perform other related technical duties that support the County's permitting, customer service, and infrastructure initiatives.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS & ABILITIES
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development Test.
Have had at least three (3) months of full-time experience performing or assisting with mapping, engineering, community planning, surveying, property assessing, or architectural work.
NOTE: One (1) year of coursework from an accredited college or university in an engineering curriculum may substitute for the experience described above.
Possess a valid Michigan motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicates with engineers, contractors, developers, surveyors, real estate representatives, local officials, general public, and others to answer questions about departmental operations and/or procedures.
Assists other employees within a department with access to, and development of, specific mapping or signage information/data.
Queries, displays, and produces hardcopy output from GIS and/or CAD data for information. Prepares/mounts visual displays to be used in presentations (e.g., signs, maps, which are necessary in a legal case, drawings, which are presented to the Board of Commissioners).
Performs other miscellaneous data input using a computer application (payment information, land record information, etc.).
Reads and reviews legal survey documents (e.g., property descriptions, deeds, mortgages, easements, rights-of-way, etc), tax descriptions, as-builts, construction plans, hand sketches, digital maps, and other related information.
Interprets the information found on these sources and checks for accuracy and consistency. In some cases, independent sources of data may be used to verify information. Corrects information on legal documents (e.g., deeds, mortgages, easements, assignments, etc.) and discharges mortgage documents if appropriate. Verifies cost and other estimates that are then presented to higher-level staff.
Performs calculations (e.g., area, distance, perimeter, etc.) using appropriate technical device. Verifies "error of closure" using appropriate device.
Travels to various locations throughout county to assist in field collection of information. Includes identification, measurement, appraisal, and classification of land and/or structures. Requires use of stakes/flags, pipe locators, shonestead device, tape measure, survey instruments, Global Positioning Systems, survey notes and other field collection equipment to describe characteristics of land and/or structures.
Removes and/or clears brush and groundcover from property. Inspects construction sites before, during and after construction for soil erosion.
Organizes and maintains space allocation plans as well as facility record drawings.
Document and order signage supplies kept on the Oakland County complex.
Develop temporary signs for special events in and around the county grounds.
Change, install and remove signs in and around the Oakland County complex when appropriate.
Visually and manually inspect signs for necessary repairs.
May remove ground cover and brush from signs to assist patrons of the county.
Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
