Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Experience forecasting and presenting weathercasts - 2+ years, working knowledge of TV weather graphics systems
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of synoptic meteorology, tropical and radar
  • Skills: Ability to anticipate situations, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
  • Abilities: Demonstrate enthusiasm in dealing with breaking news
  • Travel Ability: Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community
  • Schedule: Ability to work different shifts or longer shifts due to 'breaking news' and severe weather emergencies. Willing and able to work weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Weather Association (NWA) and/or the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal
  • Working knowledge of general office computer software, newsroom software, and basic non-linear editing systems
  • May be required to lift up to five pounds

Working Conditions

  • Works inside a climate-controlled environment throughout the year, however will be assigned to field duties as necessary
  • Works in an open newsroom setting with a semi-noisy environment
  • Communicates in person, by phone, and by email
  • Materials and equipment used: various studio, weather forecasting, and newsgathering television equipment, computers, and computer-related equipment
