How much do metallurgy python jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 4, 2026, the average yearly pay for metallurgy python in the United States is $139,971.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $110,500.00 and $164,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Metallurgy Python developer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Metallurgy Python developer, you need a solid background in materials science or engineering, strong Python programming skills, and experience with data analysis. Familiarity with metallurgy-specific libraries (like pymatgen), simulation tools (such as Thermo-Calc or CALPHAD), and data visualization platforms is commonly required. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication help translate complex metallurgical concepts into actionable code and insights. These competencies are crucial for developing reliable computational models, automating analyses, and supporting innovation in metallurgical research and development.

How does a Metallurgy Python professional typically collaborate with engineers and data scientists in a manufacturing environment?

In a manufacturing setting, Metallurgy Python professionals often work closely with engineers and data scientists to analyze material properties and optimize production processes. They use Python to process large datasets from lab tests or production lines, helping engineers identify trends and make data-driven decisions. Regular meetings and cross-functional project teams are common, allowing for real-time sharing of insights and troubleshooting. This collaborative environment fosters innovation and ensures that metallurgical solutions are both technically sound and practically viable.

What is metallurgy in Python?

Metallurgy in Python refers to the use of Python programming language tools and libraries to model, analyze, and simulate metallurgical processes and materials science problems. This typically involves using scientific libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, and matplotlib for data analysis and visualization, as well as specialized packages for crystallography, phase diagrams, and thermodynamics. Python's flexibility and ease of use make it a popular choice for researchers and engineers in metallurgy to automate calculations, process experimental data, and develop custom simulation tools.

What is the difference between Metallurgy Python vs Materials Scientist?

AspectMetallurgy PythonMaterials Scientist
Required CredentialsTypically requires a degree in metallurgy, materials science, or related fields; programming skills in PythonRequires a degree in materials science, chemistry, or physics; often includes programming knowledge
Work EnvironmentLaboratories, manufacturing plants, and research facilities with a focus on metallurgy processes and data analysisResearch labs, industrial settings, and academia focusing on material properties and development
Industry UsageUsed in metal production, quality control, and process optimization with Python scriptingApplied across various industries for developing new materials and analyzing material behavior

While both roles involve materials and scientific knowledge, Metallurgy Python emphasizes programming skills in Python for metallurgy applications, whereas Materials Scientists focus broadly on material properties and development, often with less emphasis on programming.

Job description

Company Overview
Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.
Overview
Joby Aviation is seeking a Composites Engineer (Methods and Allowables) to join our growing Materials and Process team. This role is a key position within the team as the company quickly moves towards FAA certification. The engineer will be expected to create validated standards and procedures for substantiation of various types of aircraft structural components. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work across multiple engineering disciplines and play an instrumental role in creating Joby's design and analysis standards.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and validate structural analysis methods and standards
  • Create tools for efficient, accurate analysis of composite and metallic structures
  • Create and execute test plans to validate analysis tools and generate statistical design values for use in structural sizing
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other team members to ensure that assigned projects meet technical, budget, and schedule requirements
  • Communicate project plans, status, and results to internal stakeholders
  • Author white papers describing novel substantiation approaches

Required
  • B.S. in mechanical, aerospace, or structural engineering
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated working experience, including internships, co-ops, academic research, or project experience
  • Experience performing analysis (stress, stability) of composite structures for aerospace or other high-performance applications using finite element analysis and hand calculations
  • Solid understanding of composite materials characterization testing, including test matrix definition, data evaluation, and basis property calculation
  • Excellent understanding of the mechanics of composite materials (Classical Lamination Theory, elastic and strength properties, failure modes)
  • Proficiency with programming or scripting languages (C++, Python, VBA, etc.)
  • Ability to create well-written and accurate technical documents such as analysis templates, test plans, test reports, and certification documents

Desired
  • M.S. in in mechanical, aerospace, or structural engineering
  • 3+ years of experience related to in the development and certification of composite structures for small aircraft
  • In-depth knowledge of the certification process for composite aircraft structures (AC 20-107B)
