What you’ll tackle
  • Set up and run forging presses: install top/bottom dies, back plates, and shims following the setup sheet.
  • Fine-tune ram settings for quality and consistency.
  • Retrieve dies from the pre-heat bench; stage tooling and materials.
  • Handle hot billets with tongs; verify billet color/heat and align precisely into dies.
  • Operate the forge press, trim press (including a 130 mechanical forge trim press), and rotary/slot furnaces.
  • Measure to print with micrometers, calipers, and gauges; record results in the PC.
  • Perform routine PM on presses/furnaces; uphold 5S and Lean/CI improvements.
  • Move materials by forklift and follow all safety procedures.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
Bring these strengths
  • Background in forging press setup/operation and trim press work.
  • Comfort with forge setup sheets, basic blueprint reading, and computer data entry.
  • Experience benching dies and using air grinders/hand tools.
  • Rotary and slot furnace startup/operation; familiarity with basic PM on furnaces.
  • Basic metrology (micrometers, calipers) and shop math.
  • Understanding of forge safety, ISO quality, and Lean Standard Work.
  • Strong teamwork and communication; forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
Environment & physicals
  • Manufacturing/shop environment with billet temps up to ~2300°F; summer ambient temps may exceed 90°F.
  • Standing/walking for long periods (often 10+ hours); lift/move 50+ lbs.
  • Use electrical/pneumatic hand tools; handle extremely hot metal billets with tools.
  • Forklift operation certification required.
Education & experience
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred (not required).
  • Approximately 2 years of trade school preferred (not required).
  • Manufacturing background (around 2 years preferred); forging experience not required.
  • Preferred: 3+ years setting up and operating forging presses.
