Job description

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products (SMP) is a division of AMETEK, Inc. a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices. The Specialty Metal Products division includes seven successful businesses with operating facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, and Malaysia.
With a strong focus on safety, the AMETEK Hamilton Precision Metals plant in Lancaster, PA custom re-rolls precision metal strip and foil, including titanium, nickel and nickel-based alloys, stainless steel and super alloys with applications in medical, aerospace, electronics, and process control. We are seeking a safety-conscious, action-oriented Traffic and Metals Utility worker to join our team.
Essential Functions:
  • Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties throughout the plant. Assist others in lifting and moving material. Operate scrap baler and place scrap in containers and move containers to the scrap area.
  • Move materials, parts and supplies from and to stock areas, processing, and shipping. Opening of all incoming raw material and preparing for inspection department by weighing and marking the material with appropriate data. Move material in and out inventory storage as directed by the Shipping/Inventory Control Clerk.
  • Prepare materials for shipping by cutting materials to length, flattening metals, recoiling to proper lengths, wrapping, making shipping containers, etc. Follow customer's shipping instructions, maintain the shipping log, and prepare shipping information and certifications. Operate core cutler and cut cores for slitting machines or other applications. Operate computer for shipping labels and total weight slips.
  • Pick up material throughout factory, move to traffic area, pack for shipping and weigh. Deliver shipping papers to the Traffic Office. Unload incoming materials from trucks, examine containers for damage, and verify count.
  • Pull purchase orders and verify against packing list. File records. Write receiving records, cross-reference files and deliver materials to department. Load trucks. May move office furniture and other non-production equipment, such as shelving, that does not require special handling skills.
  • Operate equipment such as towmotor; Company vehicle, and electric and manual hand lift truck. Conduct weekly routine maintenance and safety checks on vehicles such as oil and fluid levels, back-up lights, flasher, and horn. Fill out weekly checklist and report any problems to supervisor. Change gas tank as required.
  • Assist the maintenance department throughout the plant and grounds. Clean work areas, equipment and the interior of the plant. Paint equipment and plant as instructed. While assisting the maintenance department may make minor repairs to nonproduction related equipment. May use hand tools.
  • This description covers the most significant duties performed but does not exclude other occasional work assignments not mentioned, the inclusion of which would be in conformity with the factor degrees assigned to Traffic and Metal Utility Worker.
  • May be asked to participate in continuous improvement activities, individually or as a team member. Actively seeks to continuously improve standard work techniques or processes leading to, but not limited to decreasing lead time, improve quality, decreasing set-up time and/or processing time to reduce costs and expand business.
  • Performs routine set-up and process adjustments inherent to the production process and monitors the product quality by visual observation and review of process data in accordance with meeting customer specifications.
  • Abide by all plant safety rules and procedures. Immediately report any unsafe conditions, acts, near misses, and injuries. Properly wear and care for all Personal Protective Equipment. Communicate and submit ideas for any safety issues. May be asked to participate on Safety Teams.

Requirements:
  • High school education or equivalent and a high degree of mechanical and mathematical ability.
  • Must have the dexterity and the ability to operate the following equipment: towmotor, electric and manual pallet trucks, electric saws, shears, flatteners, spooling tables and banding equipment.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
