Job description

Job Purpose

The Metal Sorter is responsible for accurately identifying, sorting, and processing scrap metal to support efficient yard operations. This role ensures material quality, safe handling, and proper preparation for shipment while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.


This is a on-site, second shift position, Monday-Friday 3:30pm-12:00am.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Correctly identify and sort scrap metal using visual inspection and tools
  • Package processed metal securely into appropriate goods and containers, ensuring loads are properly staged for outbound shipment
  • Operate forklift and other operating heavy yard equipment, including balers, mutilators, cable stripping machines, and container loading anchors
  • Load and unload inbound and outbound materials
  • Accurately track and record material weights and classifications
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including washing and sanitation of material boxes and equipment as needed
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including strict adherence to all facility safety protocols
  • Attend all required safety, training and team meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of various metal types preferred
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and safety
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting


Working conditions

  • Hours: Monday-Friday 3:30pm-12:00am (second shift).
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding, outdoor environment
