Job description

Essential Functions:
  • Sets up machines in accordance with job prints and specifications to very close tolerances.
  • Produces basic precision items beyond the capabilities of production machine operators.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Measures, examines, and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications; utilizes precision instruments including but not limited to micrometers, calipers, bore gauge, depth micrometer, and other inspection equipment as needed.
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  • Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Lays out, measures, and marks metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Operates all common machine shop equipment and hand tools skillfully.
  • Works from prints or drawings to produce a variety of items.
  • Follows all safety rules regarding machine operation and proper guarding.
  • Follows all lock-out/tag-out procedures when machines must be shut down for repairs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Education and Experience:
  • Graduate of technical school, full apprenticeship program, or completion of in-company four-year training program to satisfaction of plant training committee, preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) year set-up experience as a machinist.
Pay Range:$23.00/hr to $36.00/hr
