What is the opportunity?

The HR/BMCC Innovation Data team serves as a horizontal function delivering business systems analysis, product management and data expertise to HR, BMCC business and other IT partners. We are the Data Strategy pillar in this team, responsible for building a data platform product (data hub) for HR.

As theLead Data Solution Engineerin the Data Strategy team, you will architect and deliver enterprise-scale data solutions that drive innovation and efficiency in HR processes. This role combines deep technical/hands-on expertise in data engineering, architecture, and modeling with strategic leadership to align data systems with HR business objectives. You will lead cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and ensure compliance with RBC's regulatory standards in a highly governed environment.

What will you do?

  • Design and develop data models, processes, and systems, ensuring alignment with business requirements and adherence to organizational standards and best practices.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, and deliver innovative data solutions that enhance operational efficiency and address complex challenges.
  • Lead end-to-end data solution designand implementation of HR systems, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with RBC's hybrid could strategy (Azure/AWS/On-prem).
  • Define and govern data architecture standards, including enterprise data models, relational database design, and metadata management for HR domains.
  • Build and optimize scalable ETL/ELT workflowsusing tools like OpenShift, Snowflake, dbt, Airflow and Spark, with a focus on HR data integration (e.g., core HR, payroll, talent management).
  • Drive DevOps/CI-CD practicesto automate deployment pipelines and ensure high availability of HR data platforms.
  • Collaborate with HR stakeholdersand product managers to translate business requirements into technical solutions, ensuring compliance with data governance and regulatory frameworks (e.g., risk, privacy).
  • Mentor other engineersand lead cross-functional teams (developers, business analysts, HR partners) to deliver impactful data solutions.
  • Apply emerging technologies(e.g., AI/LLM, advanced analytics) to enhance HR data capabilities and innovation.
What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data management.
  • 6+ years designing enterprise data architectures across multiple domains.
  • 6+ years designing and optimizing ETL/ELT and data integration solutions.
  • 6+ years with data warehouses, data lakes, and analytics platforms.
  • 6+ years with data modeling and relational database design.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Snowflake or other similar cloud data platforms.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with SQL, Python, Java or other similar coding languages.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, architecting, or building data products.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality methodologies, and metadata management.
  • Experience in highly regulated industries (banking, financial services) with compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to design scalable, secure, and high-performance data solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to translate complex technical concepts for business leadership.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Nice-to-have:

  • Snowflake or cloud data platform certifications.
  • Experience with metadata-driven architectures, API design, domain-driven design, or data mesh patterns.
  • Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps experience
  • Experience with AI/ML applications in HR data (e.g., talent analytics, workforce planning).
  • Familiarity with HR systems (e.g., Workday, SAP SuccessFactors) and integration patterns.
