Job description

Overview

We’re seeking an experienced Energy as a Service (EaaS) Project Manager to lead end-to-end delivery of energy optimization projects for commercial, industrial, and public-sector clients. The ideal candidate will blend project management discipline with deep understanding of energy systems (demand reduction, efficiency, onsite generation, energy storage, and utility interactions), a strong customer-facing orientation, and the ability to manage complex stakeholder ecosystems. This role drives value through scoping, design, procurement, execution, commissioning, and ongoing performance monitoring under an EaaS business model.

What is EaaS at a glance

Outcomes-based energy management where the provider funds, designs, installs, and operates energy improvements, and is paid via a shared-savings, utility bill reductions, or performance-based contract.

Typical solutions include: energy efficiency retrofits, HVAC optimization, lighting upgrades, building management systems (BMS), on-site generation (solar, CHP), energy storage, demand response, and data analytics/measurement & verification (M&V).

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end EaaS project lifecycle: opportunity qualification, scoping, technical design, procurement, construction/installation coordination, commissioning, handover, and O&M transition.

Develop and own project plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, and change control processes. Track milestones and ensure on-time, within-budget delivery.

Translate client energy goals into technically sound, financially viable EaaS solutions. Prepare business cases, ROI analyses, levelized cost of energy (LCOE) estimates, and value propositions.

Manage cross-functional teams (sales, engineering, procurement, construction, operations, finance) and external partners (OEMs, integrators, EPCs, utility program managers, lenders, ESCOs).

Lead stakeholder management and executive-level communications. Present project progress, risks, and value realization to clients and internal leadership.

Oversee M&V planning and implementation to verify energy savings and performance guarantees. Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., IPMVP, ISO 50001) and contractual guarantees.

Drive procurement strategy, including vendor selection, RFP/RFI processes, contract negotiation, and supplier performance management.

Navigate regulatory and utility program requirements, incentives, tariffs, and interconnection processes relevant to the project.

Ensure quality, safety, and compliance across all sites, including adherence to local regulations, permits, and EH&S standards.

Optimize financing structures for EaaS contracts (capturing incentives, tax benefits, and financing options such as Opex/Capex hybrids, performance-based payments, and shared savings arrangements).

Lead risk assessment and mitigation planning (technical, financial, regulatory, schedule, and operational risks).

Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making. Leverage energy management platforms and analytics to monitor performance, detect anomalies, and drive continuous improvement.

Compile and deliver client-ready program reports and executive dashboards. Prepare post-implementation reviews and lessons learned.

Support business development by contributing to proposals, scoping texts, and client workshops.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Construction Management, Business, Finance, or a related field. Master’s degree or MBA is a plus.

5+ years of project management experience in energy, facilities management, utilities, or ESCO/EaaS environments. PM certification (PMP, PgMP, or equivalent) strongly preferred.

Demonstrated experience with energy efficiency projects, demand-side management, on-site generation, energy storage, and/or demand response.

Knowledge of M&V methodologies (IPMVP) and performance-based contracting.

Strong financial acumen: experience with ROI, NPV, LCOE, shared savings models, financing structures, and risk-adjusted pricing.

Familiarity with utility programs, tariffs, incentives, interconnection processes, and regulatory considerations.

Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira/Confluence, Asana, Smartsheet) and energy analytics platforms (e.g., Energy Management Systems, SCADA, BMS, or fault detection software).

Data-driven mindset; ability to work with large datasets, KPI development, and performance dashboards.

Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills. Strong client-facing approach with the ability to manage expectations and negotiate with diverse parties.

Proven ability to manage complex vendor ecosystems and relationships.

Travel up to [X]% depending on project locations and client needs.

Desired skills and attributes

Familiarity with green building standards (LEED, BREEAM) and ESG reporting.

Experience with financing mechanisms for EaaS (Power Purchase Agreements, Energy Service Agreements, leases, or performance-based contracts).

Knowledge of cyber-physical security considerations for building control systems.

Change management and adoption skills to drive client engagement and operational acceptance.

Certification or hands-on experience with energy modeling (ASHRAE, eQUEST, EnergyPlus) is a plus.

Spanish or other language proficiency for multinational deployments is a plus.

Key performance indicators (KPIs)

On-time project delivery rate and adherence to planned budget

Realized energy savings versus committed savings (M&V results)

Customer satisfaction (Net Promoter Score or equivalent)

Number of successful utility incentive claims and timeliness

O&M performance and reliability metrics post-implementation

Handover quality: completeness of O&M manuals, training completion, and documentation

Portfolio-level value realization (aggregate ROI, LCOE, and payback periods)

What we offer

Competitive salary and benefits package

Bonus–based compensation tied to project outcomes and company performance

Opportunities for career progression in a growing EaaS practice

Professional development support and training in energy systems and project management
