Work EnvironmentDesign agencies, tech companies, creative teamsTech companies, agencies, product teams
Industry UsageUsed in digital, branding, and interface design projectsFocused on improving user interactions and satisfaction

Meta Design and User Experience Designer roles overlap in design skills and work environments, but Meta Design emphasizes holistic visual and conceptual design strategies, while User Experience Designers focus on optimizing user interactions and usability. Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths and job expectations in the digital design industry.

How does a Meta Designer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during the design process?

Meta Designers often work closely with product managers, engineers, researchers, and other designers to ensure that design systems are cohesive and scalable. They facilitate workshops, share design guidelines, and gather feedback from various stakeholders to refine the overarching design framework. Effective communication and collaboration are vital, as Meta Designers need to bridge strategic vision with practical implementation, ensuring consistency across a wide range of products and platforms.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Meta Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Meta Designer, you need a strong background in design principles, user experience (UX), and systems thinking, often supported by a degree in design or a related field. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and prototyping tools, as well as knowledge of digital platforms and information architecture, is essential. Creative problem-solving, collaboration, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly are key soft skills for this role. These skills ensure that Meta Designers can develop cohesive design systems that adapt across platforms, enhancing user experience and organizational consistency.

What is Meta Design?

Meta Design refers to the process of designing systems, frameworks, or methodologies that enable others to create their own designs. It involves creating tools, guidelines, or structures that facilitate creativity and adaptability, rather than producing a single, finished product. Meta Design is often used in fields like user experience, software development, and architecture, where flexibility and user participation are essential. Its goal is to empower users or stakeholders to shape outcomes according to their needs within a well-considered framework.

Job description

Meta's Site Services team is seeking a Network Engineer to support the deployment and operations of enterprise network services across Meta's physical site infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end deployment, troubleshooting, and operational support of enterprise network systems — including switching, routing, wireless, and access layer infrastructure — that enable Meta's campuses and facilities to function reliably at scale. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams spanning network engineering, facilities, and IT to ensure site network services are delivered with high quality and operational rigor.
Network Engineer, Operations & Support Responsibilities:
  • Deploy and commission enterprise network infrastructure including switching, routing, wireless access points, and access layer systems across Meta's site and campus environments
  • Investigate and resolve complex network incidents affecting site services, coordinating with cross-functional teams and vendor partners to drive timely resolution and minimize impact
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support site network operations, identifying opportunities to improve escalation processes, tooling, and automation to reduce recurring issues
  • Collaborate with network engineering and facilities teams to ensure site network deployments align with design standards, reliability requirements, and security and compliance policies
  • Maintain accurate operational documentation, network inventory records, and configuration data to support ongoing site services operations and audit readiness
  • Analyze operational event trends and fault data to identify automation opportunities that reduce manual intervention and improve network reliability across site deployments
  • Partner with managed service providers and third-party vendors to coordinate deployment activities, track performance against service commitments, and drive resolution of delivery issues
  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of network standards and operational procedures for site services, ensuring consistent and compliant deployment practices across locations
  • Support capacity planning and infrastructure readiness efforts by tracking site network utilization, identifying gaps, and providing input into short- and long-term deployment roadmaps

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience working with network hardware vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, or equivalent platforms in an operational or deployment capacity
  • 2+ years of experience in enterprise network operations, deployment, or support roles involving switching, routing, wireless, and access layer infrastructure
  • Experience troubleshooting TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, Spanning Tree Protocol, and wireless networking protocols in complex multi-site or campus environments
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners including facilities, IT, and vendor teams to deliver network infrastructure projects
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
  • Experience maintaining operational documentation, network inventory systems, and configuration records to support compliance and audit requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using data analysis or network monitoring tools to identify fault trends, measure operational performance, and inform infrastructure improvements
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools to optimize network operations workflows, automate documentation, or accelerate troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Experience with network automation scripting using Python or similar languages to reduce manual operational tasks in site services environments
  • Familiarity with physical infrastructure components including structured cabling, fiber optic systems, patch panels, and data center or IDF/MDF environments relevant to campus network deployments
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
