Job description

Quality Control Lead - Fiber Deployment
Own the quality. Lead the crew. Build the infrastructure that powers tomorrow.
We're growing - and we're looking for experienced Quality Control Leads with deep fiber expertise to join Velociti on hyperscale data center deployments across the country. If you know your way around a mass fusion splicer, live by your OTDR traces, and can lead a crew of technicians while holding the line on quality, this role was built for you.
Travel: 90%+ (projects require staying on-site for 3+ consecutive months)
Location: Nationwide
About the Role
This is a newly created position designed to put experienced, certified fiber professionals in charge of quality on some of the largest data center builds in the country. As a QC Lead, you'll own the fiber quality program from first pull to final certification package, leading field crews across multiple data halls while serving as Velociti's technical authority on-site.
You won't just inspect the work - you'll splice it, test it, document it, and sign off on it. You'll interface with GC QC managers and owner's reps, enforce standards, and make sure every link that leaves your hands is ready for hyperscaler acceptance.
What You'll Do
Lead the Quality Program
You're the technical standard-bearer on site - for the crew, the GC, and the customer.
  • Develop and enforce site-specific QC plans aligned with hyperscaler requirements
  • Conduct QC inspections on SM and MM fiber deployments - end-face, bend radius, pathway fill
  • Review and approve OTDR traces, splice reports, and insertion loss data against spec
  • Document non-conformances and drive every NCR to verified closeout
  • Maintain redline drawings and support full as-built turnover at project closeout

Splice It. Test It. Certify It.
Hands-on technical execution is a core part of this role - not just oversight.
  • Perform mass fusion ribbon splicing on 288F, 432F, 864F, and 1728F+ backbone cable plant
  • Operate Fujikura, Sumitomo, and AFL mass fusion splicers with production-level proficiency
  • Maintain splice loss averages at or below 0.05 dB per ribbon splice on OS2 singlemode plant
  • Perform bi-directional OTDR testing and interpret traces for splice loss, reflectance, and anomalies
  • Execute OLTS insertion loss testing per TIA-526-7 and TIA-526-14B methodologies
  • Certify MPO/MTP/MMC assemblies (8F, 12F, 16F) including end-face, polarity, and loss testing
  • Generate and submit complete Tier 1 and Tier 2 certification packages using Fluke Networks and LinkWare

Lead Your Crew
You'll manage 4-12 technicians across active data halls - keeping work moving, safe, and on spec.
  • Direct daily crew activities across multiple work fronts in a fast-paced hyperscale environment
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety walks, and daily briefings
  • Interface professionally with GC QC managers, owner's reps, and commissioning teams
  • Escalate schedule risks, material gaps, or quality issues to the superintendent or PM team

What You Bring
  • 5+ years of hands-on fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing experience on commercial or data center projects
  • Active BICSI INSTF or BICSI TECH certification
  • Proficient, hands-on experience with Fluke Networks platforms (OptiFiber Pro, DSX CableAnalyzer) and LinkWare
  • Working knowledge of TIA-568, TIA-942, TIA-526, BICSI TDMM, and IEC 61300-3-35 standards
  • Proven ability to lead field crews and hold a high-quality bar on active construction sites
  • Strong documentation habits and communication skills - your records are as clean as your splices
  • Willingness to commit to 90%+ travel and extended on-site deployments of 3+ months

Bonus Points For:
  • Prior hyperscale data center experience (AWS, Microsoft, Google, Meta campus deployments)
  • Experience on 1728F and larger ultra-high-count ribbon cable plant
  • Familiarity with MMC and next-gen high-density connector systems
  • Additional BICSI credentials (RCDD, OSP Specialist, or higher)

Required Certifications
  • BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber (INSTF) - OR - BICSI Technician (TECH) - one required, active at hire
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 - Construction (active or able to obtain upon hire)
  • Avetta compliant (current or able to obtain upon hire - compliant candidates prioritized)

Why Velociti
Velociti is a fast-growing technology infrastructure services company deploying fiber, low voltage, and structured cabling systems on some of the most complex hyperscale construction programs in the country. We move fast, we hold the line on quality, and we put experienced people in roles where they can make a real impact.
This isn't a technician role with a lead title. You'll own the quality program on a flagship hyperscale build, work alongside top-tier GC and owner teams, and be part of a company that's building the physical backbone of cloud computing and AI infrastructure - project by project, splice by splice.
If you bring the certifications, the skills, and the drive - we're ready to put you to work.
Apply today and let's build something that matters.
