Job description

Description This is a temporary, seasonal at-will position working less than 950 hours per fiscal year and is non-benefited. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT AND THE POSITION The Community Services Department is comprised of three divisions: Community Services Administration, Youth and Adult Services, and the Child Development Center. We, as a department, take pride in the quality and variety of services we provide to the community and seek individuals who can contribute to this well-deserved reputation.

The After School Program Leader will be a member of a dynamic team in the Youth and Adult Services Division charged with delivering creative, innovative, and enriching after school programs for youth in the Emeryville community. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE MUST BE: Responsible, flexible and proactive Capable of being part of an effective team Energetic and motivational Able to provide encouragement for participation in programs Able to follow written and oral instructions Able to exercise good judgment and deal effectively with the public Able to deal with stressful situations Able to work independently with minimum supervision Knowledgeable of sports, games and arts and crafts Fun and has a sense of humor Available to work M-F during after-school hours Examples of Duties DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Organize and lead recreational activities including arts and crafts, sports, and games; supervise field trips, which may include bus travel to local attractions, taking attendance and assisting with record-keeping; issue, maintain and store equipment and supplies; interact with children, parents, care-givers, volunteers and City staff; ensure the safety and well-being of program participants. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Must be at least 16 years of age.

There are no educational requirements for this position; however experience in a structured or supervised recreational program and/or college level training in Recreation, Physical Education, Education or a related field is desirable. Salary and program assignment will be based on relevant experience in the field or college coursework. Supplemental Information OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must also have eye sight sufficient to read data, memos, spreadsheets, vouchers, computer screens; manual dexterity to operate a personal computer, typewriter, copy machine; ability to sit for extended periods; stand, walk, bend, reach above and below shoulders and lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
