Senior Product Marketing Manager - Cards & Spend Management

Mercury

San Francisco, CA โ€ข On-site, Remote

$142K - $186K/yr

Full-time

Job description

In the 1930s, Procter & Gamble wanted to sell more soap, so they started running radio ads.
That might not sound radical now, but it was a strange and clever move at the time. During the day, radios were airing serial dramas to a large audience of homemakers. P&G understood not just the product they were selling, but the rhythms, needs, and attention of the people they were trying to reach. The ads worked so well that other soap companies followed, and the "soap opera" was born.
A deep understanding of the audience, a strong product, and a little creative nerve can go a long way.
Mercury is looking for a Senior Product Marketing Manager to bring that same combination of customer insight, strategic clarity, and inventive execution to our Cards and Spend Management products.
Mercury is a financial technology company building products that feel extraordinary to use. We help startups and growing businesses accomplish more with their money by turning banking* from a frustration into a catalyst for their ambitions.
As Senior Product Marketing Manager, Cards & Spend Management, you'll focus on products that help companies understand and control how money moves through their business. That includes IO, Mercury's credit card; spend management features like limits, policies, approvals, receipts, and reporting; and the user management workflows that help teams scale.
You'll know these products, customers, and competitors inside and out. You'll help us understand what founders, finance leads, and employees need as companies grow from a few people into many. You'll shape how we position, launch, and grow these products, both to win new customers and help existing customers get more value from Mercury.
This is a role for someone who likes the full range of product marketing: research, positioning, GTM strategy, launches, lifecycle, sales enablement, competitive work, measurement, and the occasional unglamorous thing that simply needs to get done well.
*Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.
Here are some of the things you'll do:
  • Develop and execute product marketing strategy to drive awareness, adoption, spend, and revenue growth for Mercury's Cards and Spend Management products.
  • Go deep on our products, the market, and our customers in order to articulate product positioning, messaging, and value propositions.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to understand what our customers need, and where the incumbent products available today aren't cutting it.
  • Plan and execute product GTMs, nailing audience segmentation, messaging, channel strategy, and measurement.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to influence the product roadmap, with the ultimate goal of increasing product adoption and customer growth.
  • Partner closely with Sales and Relationship Management teams to improve sales win rates and product upsell opportunities
  • Build a strong relationship with marketing and brand teams to develop email campaigns, landing pages, advertising, case studies, social posts, and public relations outreach relating to your products.
  • Roll up your sleeves to get things done - this can be anything from writing a press release to negotiating a sponsorship to interviewing customers, or whatever the project requires.

We believe a successful candidate will have some of the following qualities:
  • 6+ years experience, with 3+ years of product marketing experience at a tech company
  • Ideally at least 1 year of product marketing experience in fintech
  • Product marketing depth: you are an expert in personas, positioning, messaging, pricing, and GTM strategy
  • And marketing breadth: you understand channels and content types, and how to use them to deliver the right message to the right audience at the right time
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across different levels of the company
  • Strong strategic thinker with the ability to translate market insights into actionable plans and initiatives
  • Customer-centric - you are excited to talk to customers and have experience doing customer research that is turned into actionable strategy and recommendations.
  • Enjoy storytelling through numbers and testing your assumptions (experience with data analysis and SQL is a big plus)
  • Be flexible and have an understanding that in a fast-growing startup like ours, your job might change as priorities shift

The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options/RSUs), and benefits. Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate's experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.
Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:
  • US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $171,000 - $213,700
  • US employees outside of New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $153,900 - $192,300
  • Canadian employees (any location): CAD 161,100 - 201,900
