Special Projects Project Manager

About Your Role:

As a Special Projects Project Manager at Dollar Tree's corporate office, you'll lead the planning and execution of capital expenditure (CAPEX) initiatives that support our store growth and operational objectives. You'll manage a variety of special projects, including refrigeration programs, remodels, refreshes, fixture upgrades, and store enhancements, while partnering with internal teams, vendors, contractors, and field operations to ensure successful project delivery.

Your day-to-day job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Project Planning & Execution

  • Plan and execute designated CAPEX Special Projects across the store portfolio
  • Manage all refrigeration installations, including new store openings, relocations, expansions, retrofits, and replacements
  • Partner with Operations and Store Planning teams to define project scope, objectives, and timelines
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within scope, and aligned with company standards
  • Travel as needed to assess project requirements and evaluate completed projects

Special Projects Management

Manage projects including, but not limited to:

  • Decor changes
  • Checkout modifications
  • Gondola additions and replacements
  • Balloon fixture and display installations
  • Store remodels and renovations
  • Rollout initiatives
  • Store refresh programs
  • Refrigeration installations and upgrades
  • Office and break room improvements

Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Select, coordinate, and evaluate vendors and contractors supporting CAPEX projects
  • Clearly communicate project scope, expectations, and timelines to external partners
  • Provide immediate direction and support when installation challenges arise
  • Review contractor performance and recommend process improvements based on project learnings
  • Foster strong relationships with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders

Operational Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Resolve project-related issues involving store layouts, scheduling, and installations
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to senior construction leadership
  • Prepare and distribute construction communications and project updates to field teams
  • Review and approve project quotations, material requirements, and invoices
  • Ensure compliance with Dollar Tree construction and operational standards

Your Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in retail construction, store development, project management, or a related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of retail construction processes and project execution
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong project planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with vendors, contractors, architects, engineers, and internal business partners
  • Approximately 15% travel required to support business needs

Preferred Requirements:

  • Technical training or experience in mechanical, electrical, or structural disciplines
  • Bachelor's degree in Management, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Familiarity with retail fixturing, store planning, store operations, or merchandising
  • Self-directed professional with an innovative mindset and strong execution skills
  • Experience leading construction-related capital projects in a retail environment
