The Merchandise Allocation Analyst is responsible for allocating and distributing inventory to the stores for designated merchandise categories. Specifically, this individual analyzes various components of the stores' business and, based on the results of analysis, makes decisions regarding the manner in which merchandise is allocated in order to maximize sales and inventory productivity. This role is key to ensuring the product plan and vision is executed to its full potential.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: (*Essential Functions)
  • Develop and implement cohesive allocation strategies across designated retail businesses
  • Analyze and formulate store inventory placement by monitoring store category sales, understanding existing physical inventory, identifying trends, and monitoring the timing and scope of seasonal changes.
  • Evaluate store sales and inventory levels to identify areas of opportunity. Communicate store inventory opportunities to cross functional retail teams - buying, planning, store operations, field management
  • Provide insight regarding store inventories to merchants and planners to support the creation of seasonal product strategies. Provide guidance regarding selling patterns, the timing of future purchases, and purchasing philosophies.
  • Understand and utilize Replenishment Systems, Allocations Systems//Access and Data Warehouse applications. Evaluate and maximize system capabilities to further enhance allocation tools and effectiveness.
  • Maximize the profit potential of assigned categories by analyzing inventory risks and opportunities, and developing and implementing inventory allocation strategies.
  • Streamline the flow of merchandise through effective analysis and guidance
  • Determine and standardize allocation best practices
  • Manage new store opening assortment
  • Analyze store inventory issues and make appropriate recommendations for stock balancing.

Job Specifications: (Knowledge, skills and abilities normally required for competent performance in the job.)
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent analytical communications, interpersonal and PC skills.
  • 2-4 years of related experience is required, which should include store planning and inventory management, or buying office experience
  • Experience with E3, Manhattan or different replenishment software is a strong plus.
  • Softline experience preferred.
