The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach is a part time position responsible for assisting with the recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes. The position is responsible for assisting the Head Men's Basketball Coach with the day-to-day operations of the basketball program including coaching, recruiting, practice planning and preparation, competition scheduling, fundraising, budgetary management, strength & conditioning, academic monitoring, and other duties as assigned. The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach will also assist in the facilitation of program scheduling, college and community relations, and the academic achievement of the student-athletes. The position reports to the Head Men's Basketball Coach.
Requirements
Essential Functions:
The statements below are intended to describe the principal duties of the person or persons assigned to this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties and responsibilities.
  • In conjunction with the Head Men's Basketball Coach, manage aspects of the team including strength and conditioning, practicing, competing, and scheduling.
  • Assist the Head Coach in recruiting and retaining academically qualified student-athletes within the guidelines of Westminster College, the SLIAC (St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), and NCAA Division-III.
  • Collaborate with admission office staff and counselors for contacts, campus visits, and other recruiting activities.
  • Monitor class schedules, grades and student-athlete academic progress.
  • Ensure that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.
  • Ensure that student athletes follow a standard of conduct that aligns with the core values of the College.
  • Support the program by assisting in the organization and supervision of fundraising activities, camps and clinics.
  • Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the College, SLIAC and the NCAA with the utmost integrity.
  • Work cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the College positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media and general public.
  • Complete other assigned administrative duties in a timely manner.
  • Engage in regular consultation with athletic training and other sport department personnel to maximize the safety and wellness of student-athletes and demonstrates concern for the overall welfare of students at all times.

Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience & Skills:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of SLIAC and NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility and related functions is required
  • Candidates should have an athletics philosophy compatible with a Division-III liberal arts college
