Job description

Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for a full-time, Assistant Men's Basketball Coach. 

This position reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Head Men's Basketball Coach. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Job Type: Full Time

Job Purpose: The full time Assistant Men's Basketball Coach provides support and leadership in all aspects of developing highly successful programs primarily focused on instruction and mentorship for student athletes. The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach is expected to be fully integrated into the life of the program, the athletics department and university mission. The position is an avenue to empower and build lives through the avenue of college athletics. 

Job Duties:Administrative and Office Management

Daily Throughout the Traditional Championship Season

  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to plan and implement team practices.
  • Plan and implement individual practices as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Set up equipment for individual and group drills.
  • Provide one-on-one, sport-specific instruction and feedback to student-athletes during practices and competitions.
  • Provide constructive group feedback during practices and competitions.
  • Evaluate team performance and identify daily areas of improvement and future development needs.
  • Coordinate fitness and strength training sessions with the Strength and Conditioning staff.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of team social media by highlighting team activities, accomplishments, and promoting a positive team culture.
  • Prepare opponent evaluations and time standards.
Competition Responsibilities
  • Prepare competition logistics as assigned, including travel, meals, itineraries, and related arrangements.
  • Take initiative during warm-ups and pre-meet preparations.
  • Provide coaching feedback and instruction throughout competitions.
  • Offer positive reinforcement and encouragement to student-athletes throughout all competitions.
Non-Traditional Season Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with and support the Strength and Conditioning Coach.
  • Conduct equipment setup and inventory.
  • Manage equipment and apparel distribution and inventory.
  • Organize individual one-on-one meetings with student-athletes.
  • Prepare season schedules and travel plans.
  • Coordinate with departmental staff to complete all required paperwork and certifications for the team.
  • Obtain driver authorization as required.
Annual Responsibilities
  • Plan special events and community service activities.
  • Coordinate overnight recruiting visits.
  • Prepare communications for families and alumni.
  • Manage uniform distribution, collection, and inventory.
  • Coordinate the selection and organization of apparel orders.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating campus visit days.
Recruiting Responsibilities
  • Become proficient in the department's recruiting database.
  • Maintain records of prospective student-athletes expressing interest.
  • Maintain records of accepted student-athletes.
  • Maintain records of campus visits by prospective student-athletes.
  • Track correspondence with prospective student-athletes and coaches.
  • Respond promptly to correspondence from prospective student-athletes and coaches.
  • Identify and evaluate top recruiting prospects.
  • Monitor recruit profiles and athletic progression.
  • Distribute timely communications regarding campus events.
  • Participate in Open House events.
  • Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families during campus visits.
  • Provide campus tours for prospective student-athletes and their families as directed.
  • Attend showcases and prospective student-athletes' competitions throughout the year.
Budget Administration
  • Assist the Head Coach in preparing the annual operating budget as directed by the Director of Athletics.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and operate within approved budget limits.
  • Coordinate the timely selection, ordering, and maintenance of uniforms, equipment, and supplies while adhering to budgetary guidelines.
External Relations
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with alumni, prospective donors, and families through regular communication, in-person engagement, and digital outreach.
  • Promote and enhance the visibility and reputation of Lynchburg Women's Basketball within the local, regional, and national basketball communities.
Other Duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
  • Maintain a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive athletic department and ensuring compliance with Title IX and all applicable institutional policies.
 

Starting Salary: $38,000
