Job description

We're seeking a conceptually sharp Freelance Visual Creative Director to lead the vision and production for conceptual video and static content across a series of global, community-driven brands. This role is built for a hands-on creative leader with a visual background who thrives in internet culture, experiments with new storytelling techniques and technologies, and has deep experience leading teams and clients to their absolute best breakthrough work.

This role requires a freelance creative leader with a Design or Art Direction background, strong production experience and executional skills, a solid understanding of AI production, and-most importantly-an intense curiosity and passion for making organic social content that truly explodes on the algorithm. You'll collaborate closely with designers, copywriters, strategists and content creators to bring bold, social-first ideas to life, from high-performing social campaign content to one-off reactive content to episodic visual storytelling. This is a role for someone who's part creative strategist, part ideator, part producer, part culture sponge-able to both ideate and create in a fast-paced, content-native environment.

This position is open to Los Angeles candidates. Local candidates only, no relocation provided. You will be required to be on-site at our Venice office location each week.

This is a part-time freelance position at 10 hours per week. There may be additional hours needed on occasion.

To be considered for this role, please ensure your submission includes a link to your online portfolio and make sure to include password or access credentials. Your portfolio must demonstrate BRAND-DRIVEN SOCIAL CONTENT CREATION to be considered.

Responsibilities

Hands-On Creative and Production Leadership: Lead the vision and execution on a steady cadence of content across 2-3 social-first brands ranging from low-lift, always-on content to higher production value campaign content. Collaborate with both in-house production talent and, if needed, bring external creative partners to the table.

Social Content Creation: Lead the vision and help create scroll-stopping social-first content that's on-brand and platform-native using the latest generative tools across TikTok, Instagram, Twitter/X, YouTube, Discord, and more.

AI Proficiency: Demonstrate basic understanding of AI creative tools for video, image, and audio generation. This role is not AI-exclusive, but you will need to tap into these tools from time to time, lead work that leverages these tools, and we will need to see AI skills demonstrated in your portfolio.

Execution: Translate creative strategy into breakthrough visuals and assets-video, static, animation, memes, design, illustration, carousels, remix formats, and more. While this is a creative leadership role, our process is "all hands on deck" at times, and this creative leader must also flex at times into an ideator and maker.

Editorial Instinct: Ability to direct the editorial short-form content with story, vibe, rhythm, and comedic timing, blending AI-generated assets with traditional footage.

Platform Fluency: Understand platform algorithms, communities, and formats. Know what makes great hooks, and enforce strong hooks in every content piece.

Trend Adaptation: Stay current on social platform evolutions, creator content, and digital visual styles to ensure everything feels relevant and cutting edge.

Collaboration: Work with the creative team to concept and execute content ideas that are bold, original, and tuned to clients' culture and voice.

Reactive Ideation: Contribute to the ideation and development of real-time/reactive content that taps into current trends, creator moments, and internet conversations.

Accountability: Take ownership of assigned projects from kickoff through execution, while collaborating across departments and teams. During the development process, lead the creation of creative decks and ensure the content is clear, well-crafted, supports the strategy and is on-time for each client meeting.

Requirements

Brand-Driven Social Content Portfolio REQUIRED: A strong portfolio, reel and/or social feed featuring brand content, inclusive of AI content creation for social media. Submissions without examples of brand-focused social content will not be considered.

Production Experience: 10+ years of total experience in professional content creation/editorial, digital/social video, or creative production roles with a recent emphasis on AI adoption. Well versed in post-production tools like Adobe Premiere Pro & After Effects, and CapCut.

Social Native: Experience producing for social channels and tailoring work to various formats and audience expectations. Demonstrate understanding of meme culture, visual humor, reactive content, creator trends, and the broader social culture ecosystem.

Soft Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with creatives, strategists, and producers.

Detail & Speed: Exceptional attention to detail and ability to iterate quickly on feedback.

Experimentation: A passion for experimenting with AI content styles, formats, and storytelling approaches native to the internet.
