Drive Growth. Build Connections. Strengthen Community

At the YMCA Alexandria, membership is about creating connections, opening doors, and helping people find a place where they belong. As the Membership Associate, you will play an important role in bringing that mission to life every day.

You will be one of the faces of the Yโ€”welcoming members and guests, building relationships, connecting people to programs and opportunities, and creating experiences that keep people engaged with the Y and their community. Your ability to listen, connect, and build trust will directly contribute to membership growth, member retention, and the overall strength of the branch.

What you will do at the Y:

Grow Membership by Building Relationships

  • Build authentic relationships through community outreach, networking, and partnership development.
  • Conduct engaging cause-driven tours that focus on what matters most to each prospective memberโ€”not simply the features of the facility.
  • Respond to membership leads and inquiries with a consultative, listen-first approach.
  • Help achieve monthly membership and retention goals while keeping the Y's mission and community impact at the center of your work.

Be a Connector in the Community

  • Develop and maintain meaningful corporate and community partnerships.
  • Represent the YMCA at local events, civic gatherings, networking opportunities, and community activities.
  • Work closely with branch leadership and program teams to create engaging experiences for members and prospective members.
  • Identify opportunities to introduce people to the programs, services, and resources that make the Y an important part of the community.

Create a Place Where Everyone Belongs

  • Make sure every person who walks through our doors feels seen, valued, and welcomed.
  • Connect members to group exercise classes, programs, volunteer opportunities, and community initiatives.
  • Promote a culture grounded in caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Maintain high standards of facility excellence and professionalism.

Collaborate, Lead & Make an Impact

  • Partner with the Membership Director and branch team to execute membership strategies and engagement initiatives.
  • Support open houses, member events, community events, and other activities that bring people together.
  • Share your knowledge, energy, and leadership with fellow staff.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for the YMCA's mission and values.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in membership sales and customer service.
  • A genuine passion for sales, networking, relationship-building, and community engagement.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, including branch and community events.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.

Why youโ€™ll love working at the Y:

The YMCA offers a supportive and dynamic work environment that encourages personal and professional growth. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community while enjoying a range of benefits designed to support your overall well-being.

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 10% YMCA retirement contribution
  • Generous paid time off and holidays
  • Professional development and leadership opportunities
  • Complimentary YMCA family membership
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of our members and communities

Apply today to join our team. We look forward to hearing from you!
