Job description

We’re looking for a Locums Emergency Medicine Physician to cover shifts at a community-based ED in DeFuniak Springs, FL. You’ll work in a physician-led environment with solo coverage, steady patient volume, and the backing of a nearby full-service hospital—an ideal setup for clinicians who value autonomy with access to resources when needed.

Position highlights

  • 24-hour shifts with solo physician coverage
  • No Advanced Practice Provider (APP) support on site

About the facility

  • 12-bed Emergency Department with an average daily census of ~30 patients
  • On-site CT, X-ray, and laboratory services
  • Affiliated with HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital for specialty support
  • Access to specialist consultation from the main hospital, including cardiology, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, and nephrology
  • Ultrasound capabilities available via transfer protocols
  • Electronic medical record: Meditech

What you’ll do

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with a wide range of emergency conditions
  • Stabilize critically ill or injured patients and make disposition decisions
  • Perform emergency procedures within the scope of Emergency Medicine
  • Manage patients independently during your shifts
  • Arrange transfers and coordinate specialty consultations when needed
  • Work closely with nursing and ancillary staff to deliver safe, high-quality care
  • Complete accurate, timely documentation in Meditech

Qualifications

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine, OR Board Certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine with current Emergency Medicine experience
  • Active Florida medical license or the ability to obtain one
  • DEA registration
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications preferred
