Position Summary:
Each team member is responsible for assisting their department in striving to meet or exceed the standards of excellence that have been set. The Medication Technician is specifically responsible for assisting residents to self-administer medications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
(All responsibilities are to be performed within scope of practice per State/Provincial regulations.)
  • Maintain resident, employee, and community information in strict confidence (with community management or other employees as necessary).
  • Submit all required documents to Home Office in a timely manner.
  • Assist residents to self-administer specific oral medications.
  • Measure weight.
  • Adhere to all medication room systems per policy.
  • Document pertinent information in Progress Notes per policy.
  • Communicate with Resident Care Managers/Charge Nurse per policy.
  • Assist in development and revision of service plans by informing Resident Care Managers/Charge Nurse of current resident needs and preferences as well as successful service approaches.
  • Observe for and report resident problems (including but not limited to as listed in Observation and Reporting sections of Charge Nurse/Medication Assistant Resource or in-service plans) and report such problems to Charge Nurse and/or Resident Care Managers.
  • Read Communication Log at beginning of each shift; enter pertinent information in Communication Log by end of each shift.
  • Read inter-shift report at beginning of each shift; enter pertinent information in inter-shift report by end of each shift.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Health Care Aide (HCA) Certification.
  • Experience with assisting with medication administration.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain CPR and first aid certification.
  • Maintain any certifications as required by state or provincial regulations.
