Job description

Reporting directly to the SHINE Liaison, this position is responsible for identifying and assisting persons seeking assistance in applying for or being recertified for the Medicare Savings program and the Low-Income Subsidy Extra Help for Medicare Part D program. This position is also responsible for presenting the Financial Assistance for Medicare presentation to community groups including but not limited to senior low-income housing, faith-based institutions, libraries and senior centers.


Primary Accountabilities

  • Completes all required MIPPA training as per the Florida Department of Elder Affairs.
  • Present the MIPPA presentation each month to a minimum of 22 community partners including low-income senior housing, senior centers, libraries and other organizations in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.
  • Meets or exceeds MIPPA contract performance goals.
  • Views and manages the schedule for client appointments through the electronic scheduling system.
  • Maintains telephone contact with clients to complete appropriate applications.
  • Completes Low Income Subsidy applications using the Social Security website.
  • Completes Medicare Savings Program applications using the appropriate website.
  • Enters data about each completed application into the STARS tracking system.
  • Records information about each client assisted on an Excel spreadsheet
  • Assist with the Alliance for Aging's response following a disaster or emergency, as needed. Specific tasks will be assigned by the supervisor, based on need and the incumbent's availability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Education, Skill Requirements and Essential Functions

The Minimum Training and Experience that an ideal candidate will possess:

  • An associate's degree and at least one (1) year of experience in a comparable field.
  • Ability to understand crisis intervention style techniques and use skills to de-escalate verbal confrontations with difficult callers.
  • Ability to communicate positively and respectfully with older individuals, the general public, community officials and agency staff.
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to handle telephone equipment while utilizing Microsoft Excel and the STARS database.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Successful completion of a required Level ll background screening.
  • Must be able to multitask effectively and efficiently to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, with the ability to work with minimal direction.
  • Must display flexibility while at work regarding workspace, utilization of equipment, and ability to work alongside all personality types.
  • Knowledge of Florida Medicaid programs not required but helpful
  • Reliable transportation needed to visit partner locations within Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.

Compensation details: 18.5-18.5 Hourly Wage
