Ultrasound Technologist
Shift Type: Varies, Day / Afternoon / Night
Employment Type: Full Time, Part Time w/benefits
Summary:
The Diagnostic Ultrasound Sonographer primarily utilizes diagnostic medical ultrasound technology to provide patient care services. Leveraging both academic and clinical training, they perform diagnostic procedures essential for patient diagnosis and treatment. Responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, acquiring and analyzing ultrasound data, and delivering findings to physicians to support patient diagnosis and management. The sonographer applies independent judgment and systematic problem-solving to produce high-quality diagnostic information, optimizes patient care, and assists with ultrasound-guided procedures.
Experience/Education Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic sonography program, or completion of at least 9 months in such a program, with a statement from the last clinical site and program director, and expected graduation within 6 months.
  • Experience in medical imaging technology with demonstrated competency in ultrasonographic procedures, and maintenance of continuing education in ultrasonic anatomy preferred.
License or Certification Requirements:
  • Registry eligible by successful completion of the Physics registry or (S)ARRT or ARDMS registration. Must achieve (S)ARRT or ARDMS registration within 18 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of an additional registry (AB, AE, BR, FE, MSK, NE, OB, PE, PS, PVI, or VT) within 18 months of hire.
Responsibilities:
  • Apply ultrasonography principles to minimize risks to patients, self, and others.
  • Assist Radiologists and licensed physicians with interventional procedures.
  • Manage assigned work areas and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Contribute to decisions regarding equipment purchase and supply needs.
  • Address patients' physical and psychological needs during procedures.
  • Attend monthly department meetings and be available for 'On Call' emergency procedures.
  • Corroborate patient clinical history with procedures and verify informed consent for interventional procedures.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, adjust display parameters, and provide hard copy records of procedures.
  • Initiate basic life support actions when necessary and maintain digitized image storage.
  • Assist in maintaining records and managing inventory and supply purchases for assigned areas.
  • Perform specific quality control duties and participate in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan.
  • Practice aseptic techniques when needed and prepare patients and equipment for procedures to optimally demonstrate the anatomic area of interest.
  • Immobilize patients as required and handle specimens and CIDEX QC properly.
  • Provide practical instruction and participate in teaching programs for students and healthcare professionals.
  • Educate patients, select and operate ultrasound equipment and associated devices, and verify informed consent.
  • Transcribe orders and assist in scheduling patients.
  • Follow CIDEX guidelines, including wearing proper equipment, completing QC and logs, cleaning bi-weekly, and changing water daily.
