TRANSLATOR/INTERPRETER - PART-TIME - INTERIM

NATURE OF WORK

Assists school personnel and Spanish, Ukrainian-Russian speaking parents and students to communicate more effectively.ย  Work involves oral and written translation from Spanish, Ukrainian-Russian to English and from English to Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian.ย  Employee is responsible for oral translations during parent/teacher and parent/administrator conferences, during administration of tests to students, and during emergency situations in which language is a barrier for resolving the situation.ย  Employee is responsible for written translations from English to Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian for such purposes as notification regarding school activities, student progress, disciplinary actions, etc.ย  Employee is responsible for written translation from Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian to English for such purposes as translation school of school records, medical records, notes from parents, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Translates written documents from English to Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian and from Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian to English.

Translates orally from English to Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian and from Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian to English during conferences, telephone calls, testing, information gathering from other school districts, emergency situations, etc.

ย 

Assists Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian speaking students and their families with the school enrollment process.

ย 

Serves as liaison between the school district and Latino or Ukrainian-Russian groups and organizations in the community.

ย 

Assists school staff in understanding and appreciating the Latino or Ukrainian-Russian culture.

ย 

Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

ย 

Graduation from high school and demonstrated ability to speak, understand, read and write fluently in both English, Spanish or Ukrainian-Russian; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
