Job description
Primary Purpose: To provide clerical and financial support for the Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC)
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Manager of Business, Finance and Support Services, this position works within the VMC main office to coordinate and deliver clerical and financial services. Work involves frequent interruptions, constant deadlines, and balancing multiple, competing priorities in a high-volume office. This position requires an understanding of the unit's function, policies, and practices with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Typical Duties: Coordination and delivery of all VMC office functions. A high emphasis will be placed on support for the finance coordinator through numerous activities including the cash drawer summary, supporting the month end process through statement and A/R processes, and responding to client requests for finance support. Purchasing/budgetary responsibilities such as filing, reconciliation of accounts and backup for the daily cash deposits; procurement of services/supplies and other duties are also functions of the positions.
Qualifications
Education: Completion of a recognized business college course with accounting/bookkeeping and medical terminology. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience: Two to five years of related experience, preferably in a university setting.
Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; demonstrated organizational and time management skills; proven ability to work on multiple tasks/projects with competing demands to meet deadlines; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; ability to maintain attention to detail and a high level of accuracy; thorough knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping; familiarity and experience with the University's FAST and About US systems; proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
