Schafer Industries has been a leading manufacturer of precision, high-quality machined parts since 1934. Today, Schafer Industries is well established as a premiere manufacturer of superior, low noise gears as well as axles, transaxles, brake assemblies, and other critical components for application in recreational and off-road units. Schafer Industries is one of the few manufacturers of integrated solutions in the off-road vehicle market. Some of the industries Schafer serves with customer gears, axles, and other driveline components include aerospace, agriculture, automotive, construction, defense, gas and oil, material handling, medical instruments, mining, power train, and recreational vehicles.

Schafer Industries is currently seeking anIT Internto support its manufacturing facilities throughout the Midwest. This position will be on-site and focused on the South Bend, IN location with the potential for a hybrid schedule.

Position Summary:

The IT Intern works alongside the IT Team to provide support on a wide range of technical issues ranging from infrastructure to applications and programming. Contributions to new or existing IT projects are expected. The goal is to keep the business units operating securely and efficiently without interruption. Issues and requests will be logged in a help desk tracking system then worked on until resolution or escalation. The IT Intern works directly with end users (remote and on site) to understand the daily operations and quickly complete tasks and projects. Non-technical communication is essential to build relationships with the user group. Lastly, the IT Intern must work within corporate policies to keep systems up to date and compliant without negatively impacting the end user experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Help with tier 1 technical support for IT applications and infrastructure.
  • Install, modify, and make minor repairs to computer hardware and software systems.
  • Resolve tickets representing staff-generated technical requests or problems and troubleshoot both technical and process issues to maintain productivity.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation that can be understood by end users.
  • Document all activities in ticketing system per change management procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Associate's degree or above in computer science, information systems, or related field
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • The ability to communicate technical information to non-technical employees.
  • A process improvement mindset.
  • Basic knowledge of networking principles and operating systems.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of script languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, C#, etc.

Working Conditions:

  • On site in an office working environment.
  • Secondarily Air conditioned/heated manufacturing facility with possible exposure to noise; dust; fumes; physical, chemical, and biohazards; solvents, oils, and detergents.
