What is a medical scribe assistant?

Medical Scribe Assistants are professionals who assist healthcare providers by documenting patient encounters in real time during medical examinations. They enter information into electronic health records (EHRs), including patient histories, physical exams, and treatment plans, allowing physicians to focus more on patient care. Scribe assistants may also help with managing charts and handling administrative tasks, improving workflow efficiency in clinical settings. Their work ensures accurate and thorough medical documentation, which is crucial for patient care and billing.

How does a medical scribe assistant typically collaborate with healthcare providers during patient visits?

Medical Scribe Assistants work closely alongside physicians and other healthcare providers, often accompanying them during patient examinations. Their primary responsibility is to accurately document the details of each encounter in real-time, ensuring that all relevant medical information is recorded in the patient’s electronic health record. This close collaboration allows providers to focus more on patient care rather than administrative tasks. Effective communication and a keen understanding of medical terminology are essential, as Scribe Assistants must quickly and accurately translate spoken information into written documentation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a medical scribe assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Medical Scribe Assistant, you need a solid understanding of medical terminology, attention to detail, and strong typing skills, typically supported by a high school diploma or relevant coursework. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical documentation software is commonly required. Excellent listening, communication, and organizational skills help you accurately capture patient encounters and support healthcare providers efficiently. These abilities are vital for ensuring precise and timely medical documentation, which supports quality patient care and regulatory compliance.

Medical Assistant - Mobile Dermatology (Full-Time / Part-Time)

OnSpot Dermatology

Hobe Sound, FL • On-site

Full-time, Part-time

Re-posted 13 days ago

Job description

Work in a mobile dermatology clinic, assist in surgical procedures, and help detect skin cancer early—all while being part of a fast-growing, mission-driven team.

About OnSpot Dermatology

At OnSpot, we’re redefining how patients access dermatology care. Our state-of-the-art mobile medical clinics bring full-service skin care—including screenings, biopsies, and Mohs surgery—directly to communities and workplaces across Southwest Florida.

We combine innovation, compassion, and convenience to make high-quality dermatology care more accessible—and to save lives through early skin cancer detection.

Why This Role Is Different

This is not your typical Medical Assistant position.

  • Work in a mobile clinic—no two days are exactly the same
  • Gain hands-on experience in dermatology and surgical procedures
  • Be part of a close-knit, supportive team (not a large corporate system)
  • Make a real impact by helping detect and treat skin cancer early
  • Opportunities to learn, grow, and expand your clinical skills

What You’ll Do
  • Welcome patients and prepare them for exams
  • Take medical histories and assist with documentation (scribe)
  • Assist providers during procedures, excisions, and Mohs surgeries
  • Prepare and handle specimens for lab processing
  • Support patient flow, scheduling, and follow-up care
  • Help ensure every patient feels comfortable, informed, and cared for
  • Pitch in where needed as part of a collaborative team

What We’re Looking For
  • Medical Assistant experience (dermatology or surgical experience is a plus—but we will train the right candidate)
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Dependable, flexible, and motivated
  • Experience with EMR systems is helpful (we’ll train you on EMA)

Schedule Options
  • Full-time and part-time positions available
  • Flexible scheduling depending on clinic routes

Compensation & Growth
  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Hands-on training in dermatology and surgical procedures
  • Opportunity to grow within a rapidly expanding practice

Our Mission

To create a patient experience like no other—and to make life-saving dermatology care accessible to everyone.
