We are currently seeking qualified Medical Physicists to support the Department of Veterans Affairs Radiation Oncology Service at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System.

Position Summary

GD Resources LLC is recruiting two (2) full-time Medical Physicists to provide onsite therapeutic medical physics services supporting the Radiation Oncology Department at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System.

The positions include:

  • One (1) Senior Medical Physicist (Chief Therapeutic Medical Physicist)
  • One (1) Medical Physicist

These professionals will support a nationally accredited Radiation Oncology program and ensure compliance with standards established by:

  • National Radiation Oncology Program (NROP)
  • American College of Radiology (ACR)
  • American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO)
  • American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM)

The selected candidates will provide clinical physics support, quality assurance, radiation safety, treatment planning oversight, and equipment commissioning while ensuring safe, effective, and compliant patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will:

  • Provide comprehensive therapeutic medical physics services.
  • Perform quality assurance (QA) on radiation therapy equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with ACR, ASTRO, AAPM, and VA regulations.
  • Support radiation treatment planning and dose calculations.
  • Perform patient-specific QA.
  • Verify treatment plans and radiation delivery accuracy.
  • Support Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT).
  • Perform equipment acceptance testing and commissioning.
  • Assist with radiation safety activities.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, Dosimetrists, Radiation Therapists, and clinical staff.
  • Participate in accreditation activities.
  • Maintain all required certifications and continuing education.
  • Complete all required VA training and mandatory education.
  • Follow all VA policies, patient safety requirements, infection control standards, HIPAA regulations, and Medical Staff Bylaws.
Senior Medical Physicist (Chief Therapeutic Medical Physicist)Responsibilities

The Senior Medical Physicist serves as the Chief Therapeutic Medical Physicist and provides leadership for all medical physics operations including:

  • Oversight of radiation oncology physics program
  • Supervision of medical physics and dosimetry activities
  • Equipment commissioning
  • Annual and monthly QA oversight
  • Radiation safety program support
  • Treatment planning oversight
  • Clinical protocol development
  • Accreditation compliance
  • Quality management program leadership
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Ph.D. in Medical Physics or related discipline
  • Current Board Certification through one of the following:
    • American Board of Radiology (ABR)
    • American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP)
    • Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM)
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with AAPM
  • Minimum 5 years post-board certification experience
  • Minimum 3 years continuous clinical experience within the last 5 years
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all VA credentialing requirements

  • Therapeutic Medical Physics in an ACR-accredited healthcare system
  • Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerators
  • TG-142 Quality Assurance
  • Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

  • RayStation Treatment Planning System
  • ARIA Record & Verify System
  • Treatment modalities including:
    • 2D
    • 3D Conformal
    • IMRT
    • VMAT
    • SRS
    • SRT
    • SBRT
  • TG-53 compliance
  • MapCheck I/II (or equivalent)
  • Toshiba CT Simulator (or equivalent)
  • TG-66 compliance
  • Superficial X-ray systems
  • Acceptance testing of at least one Linear Accelerator
  • Commissioning of at least one Linear Accelerator for treatment planning
Medical PhysicistResponsibilities

The Medical Physicist will support the Chief Physicist by:

  • Performing routine quality assurance
  • Supporting treatment planning
  • Conducting machine QA
  • Assisting with patient-specific QA
  • Supporting radiation safety
  • Assisting with commissioning and calibration
  • Supporting accreditation activities
  • Ensuring compliance with VA and national practice standards
Minimum Qualifications
