Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to support our manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on industrial production equipment, including molding systems, auxiliary equipment, electrical systems, and facility HVAC.

This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined technician with strong electrical and diagnostic experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
 

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on injection molding machines and associated auxiliary equipment

  • Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems, including motors, controls, sensors, relays, and AC/DC drives

  • Diagnosing mechanical failures involving hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, pumps, and drive systems

  • Support troubleshooting of PLC-controlled equipment (basic fault tracing and component replacement)

  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, ladder logic, and technical manuals

  • Maintain and repair HVAC and facility support systems as needed

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat failures

  • Document maintenance activities and work orders in SAP

  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to improve equipment uptime and reliability

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on OEE, reliability, and process stability

  • Follow OSHA and company safety standards including LOTO procedures

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 3+ years' experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment

  • Minimum 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience working as a mechanic or Technician

Technical Skills & Experience

Required

  • Electrical diagnostics (120V–480V systems)

  • Hydraulics and pneumatics troubleshooting

  • Mechanical systems repair (bearings, belts, couplings, alignment)

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics

  • Strong documentation and communication skills

  • 2+ years experience working on molding machines

Preferred

  • Motor controls and VFD troubleshooting

  • Working knowledge of AC/DC drives

  • Experience with industrial automation systems

  • CMMS/SAP experience

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift up to 50 lbs.; occasionally assisted lifting above 50 lbs.

  • Extended standing and walking

  • Occasional kneeling, crouching, and crawling

  • Ability to work safely around energized systems and moving machinery

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in New York is $25.58–$38.36.
