  • Location: Dover, DE
  • Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM
  • Pay: $32.03-$49.64/hour (Based on experience) +Benefits
  • Sign-On Bonus: $12,000 with a 2-year commitment
  • Experience: 3+ years in a high-complexity laboratory

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) with strong Microbiology experience to support the daily operations and technical activities of the Microbiology laboratory.

The Lead MLS serves as a technical resource for laboratory staff, assists with workflow and staffing coordination, monitors quality and regulatory compliance, and supports the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager with day-to-day laboratory operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced MLS who has a strong Microbiology background and is ready to take on a leadership or senior-level laboratory role.


-> Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and support to Microbiology laboratory staff.
  • Coordinate daily workflow and staff assignments based on workload and patient needs.
  • Perform laboratory testing and procedures according to established protocols.
  • Monitor quality control, proficiency testing, and laboratory performance.
  • Review patient results and investigate potential testing issues.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory and instrument problems.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance and performance.
  • Assist with procedure development, validation, and implementation.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory, reagents, and laboratory supplies.
  • Coordinate instrument service and communicate with vendors.
  • Assist with staff training and competency assessments.
  • Support regulatory, safety, infection control, and quality requirements.
  • Perform technical MLS duties during staffing shortages or increased workload.
  • Serve as a designated technical/supervisory resource when the Laboratory Supervisor or Manager is unavailable.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university with required coursework in Biological Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Mathematics.
  • MLS/ASCP certification required.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a high-complexity laboratory.
  • Microbiology experience required.
  • Strong laboratory troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide technical guidance to laboratory staff.

  • 5+ years of laboratory experience.
  • Previous Lead MLS, Senior MLS, or laboratory supervisory experience.
  • Strong clinical Microbiology background.
