Job description

Lighthouse Lab Services is representing a leading healthcare organization in Raleigh, NC that is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist II (MLS II). This opportunity is ideal for an experienced laboratory professional with strong core laboratory experience who is looking for a flexible schedule within a collaborative, high-quality laboratory environment.

Position Overview

The MLS II – Core Laboratory is responsible for performing moderate and high-complexity testing across multiple laboratory disciplines, including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Immunology. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and patient care.

The MLS II will perform routine and specialized laboratory testing, analyze and verify patient results, troubleshoot instrumentation, and support quality initiatives while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform moderate and high-complexity testing in the Core Laboratory, including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Immunology

  • Analyze, verify, and report patient test results accurately and efficiently

  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation

  • Perform quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing procedures

  • Identify and resolve technical issues while ensuring accurate and timely test reporting

  • Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, and other applicable regulatory standards

  • Document corrective actions, instrument maintenance, and quality activities

  • Support laboratory workflow, specimen processing, and inventory management

  • Assist with training and mentoring of new employees and students as needed

  • Maintain a strong focus on patient safety, specimen integrity, and continuous quality improvement

Qualifications

Education

One of the following is required:

  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Technology, or a related laboratory science field

  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related laboratory science preferred

Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred

  • Previous experience in a hospital Core Laboratory strongly preferred

Certifications

Preferred certifications include:

  • ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology)

  • Equivalent national laboratory certification
