Job description


Under general supervision, performs waived, moderate and high complexity analyses as specified under CMS Standards and Certification: Laboratory Requirements


Quality Control
* Performs waived, moderate and high complexity testing using manual and automated processes following policies/procedures.

* Prepares reagents, quality control materials and other testing materials.

* Performs required equipment maintenance.

* Assists in data evaluation, and correlation of new instruments/procedures.

* Demonstrates knowledge of open and expiration dates and storage of specimens, QC and reagents.
Computer/Documentation
* Demonstrates the understanding of the concept "need to know" for HIPAA for the purpose of relaying information to patients.

* Enters comments, uses RBV for result reporting.

* Calls all critical values to appropriate personnel, using patient full name, second identifier, test name, results and identity of person receiving results.

* Assesses patient results using inquiry and able to print patient reports.

* Recognizes computer problems and reports to IT/ or troubleshoots within capabilities.

* Demonstrates/understands documentation process during downtimes.

* Demonstrates the ability to print and review shift pending reports, notes critical patients or those having testing issues.

Data Integrity
* Reviews and records quality control and steps in troubleshooting for acceptability.

* Complies with all protocols, SOPs and regulatory agency guidelines.

* Identifies, resolves problems and takes corrective action in the evaluation of testing procedures, patient results and specimen integrity.

* Performs correct identification of all specimens by matching name, and Medical Record Number.

* Reviews and records patient results for acceptability before verification.
People Management
* Assists Manager/Director in writing/reviewing laboratory policies and procedures.

* Assists in training new personnel.

* Assists with preparing/maintaining facility accreditation readiness for CAP/DNV visits.
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.

* If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame.


Education: 

Medical Lab Technician
Associate Degree- In Clinical laboratory science, microbiology, chemistry or biological science- Required


Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist 1, 2
Bachelor's in Clinical laboratory Science, Microbiology, chemistry or biological science- Required
OR
MLT must be eligible to sit for and pass MT/MLS ASCP, AMT or equivalent boards within 6 months- Required


Certification & Licensures:


Medical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Technologist 1

Medical Technologist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist certification from ASCP, AMT, HEW, or equivalent certification- Required
New Graduates- 6 months to pass boards for certification

Medical Technologist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist certification from ASCP, AMT, HEW, or equivalent certification- Required


Medical Laboratory Technician 1
