Position Overview

We are seeking a Lead Medical Lab Assistant for our Clinical Pathology department in Columbia County. This full-time position requires 40 hours of work per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and receive laboratory samples for testing, ensuring proper patient preparation and transport requirements are met.
  • Adhere to Standard Precautions and utilize personal protective equipment during specimen collection and processing.
  • Exhibit strong verbal, non-verbal, written, and electronic communication skills to facilitate effective interactions between the laboratory, clinical services, and physicians.
  • Lead initiatives focused on quality, lean practices, and process improvements.
  • Provide clerical support for billing, troubleshooting, data collection, and verification of lab orders and labels.
  • Utilize necessary computer systems to ensure accuracy and efficiently resolve issues within the assigned section.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all organizational policies, work standards, and the code of conduct.
QualificationsEducation
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Associate's Degree is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • All certifications must be obtained upon hire unless specified otherwise.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or equivalent certification.
  • CPT - Certified Phlebotomy Technician or provisional certification within two years.
  • MLT(ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Technician or provisional certification within 180 days of hire.
  • Additional certifications from ASCP, AMT, NHA, NCCT, ABB, NPA must be obtained within 180 days of hire.
  • Specific phlebotomy certifications required within 180 days of hire.
Experience
  • A minimum of three years of experience in any laboratory field is required.
Skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory and hospital regulations is essential.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and make prompt decisions.
  • Strong laboratory technical skills for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical tasks.
  • Capability to lead assigned areas and communicate effectively.
