JOB LOCATION : SGMC Patient Financial Services

DEPARTMENT: REVENUE CYCLE MEDICAL GROUP

SCHEDULE: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, 8-5

POSITION SUMMARY:

Codes and abstracts ICD-9 and CPT codes for Diagnosis and Procedures on ambulatory visits. Uses 3M encoder and grouper as well as verifies codes in books. The coder will maintain a productivity log daily. The coder may interact with physicians as well as other health professionals. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Certified Coding Specialist preferred, experience considered. 
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  •  Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and ICD-9-CM and CPT required. 
  • Minimum one year outpatient Medical Records coding experience required. 
  • Typing skills helpful for use of computer keyboard. Good communication skills essential.

WORKING CONDITIONS- ADA INFORMATION: 

Coder may spend long hours working at computer terminal. Must be able to see and read names, numbers, and colors. The Coder is subject to high stress levels. The Coder uses three systems simultaneously, 3M, HIS and HPF.
