What is medical innovation?

Medical innovation refers to the development and implementation of new technologies, treatments, procedures, or processes that improve patient care and advance the field of medicine. This can include the creation of new medical devices, pharmaceuticals, diagnostic tools, or digital health solutions. Medical innovation often involves interdisciplinary collaboration among scientists, engineers, healthcare providers, and regulatory agencies. Its ultimate goal is to enhance health outcomes, increase efficiency, and address unmet medical needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in medical innovation?

To excel in Medical Innovation, you need a strong background in medical sciences, research methodology, and often an advanced degree in medicine, biomedical engineering, or related fields. Familiarity with data analytics tools, medical device development processes, regulatory standards, and intellectual property management is highly valuable. Creative problem-solving, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and strong communication skills set exceptional professionals apart in this field. These competencies are crucial for developing impactful healthcare solutions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving the successful adoption of new technologies.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in medical innovation roles?

Professionals in medical innovation often encounter challenges such as navigating complex regulatory requirements, ensuring cross-functional collaboration between clinicians, engineers, and business teams, and balancing the need for rapid development with stringent safety standards. Adapting to evolving technologies and integrating feedback from diverse stakeholders are also critical aspects of the role. Overcoming these obstacles requires strong communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Our organization is in search of a full-time academic physician specializing in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) to take on the role of Director at the Center for Fertility. This position offers a unique chance to lead the program into its next phase following a brief clinical hiatus after the previous REI physician's departure in July 2025. • Work closely with the embryologist, department chair, and administrative staff to create efficient, high-reliability operations.
  • Establish a vision for patient-centered, high-quality fertility care.
  • Hold a teaching faculty position at the School of Medicine, providing mentorship to residents and fostering REI research initiatives.
  • Engage with a dynamic academic department that includes 37 residents and 3 fellows, as well as a multidisciplinary team of OB/GYN generalists, GYN/ONC, MFM, and URO/GYN specialists.
About Us

We are a faith-based academic medical center dedicated to holistic care, medical innovation, and education for over a century.
