Position: Information Governance Manager (Global Law Firm)

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)

Position Summary for Information Governance Manager:

Join a collaborative, globally recognized AM25 law firm in this high-impact promotional opportunity for an experienced Information Governance professional ready for the next step in their career. The Information Governance Manager will lead the firm's enterprise-wide information governance program, driving strategic initiatives that ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and client requirements while minimizing information risk across its global offices. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a critical function and help shape the firm's information governance strategy on a global scale.

 

Responsibilities for Information Governance Manager:

  • Develop and maintain the firm's global information governance strategy, policies, and standards to ensure the secure management of information across the enterprise.
  • Lead enterprise initiatives involving records retention, defensible disposition, information classification, data lifecycle management, and governance automation to reduce information risk.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Records, IT, Conflicts, the Office of General Counsel, and key business stakeholders to drive cross-functional information governance initiatives.
  • Partner with IT and Cybersecurity to oversee information governance across Microsoft 365, document management systems, cloud platforms, and collaboration tools, including monitoring system permissions, user access, and data security controls.
  • Develop and enforce information governance policies, data security standards, and information access restrictions, including implementing ethical walls ("walling off" information) where required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable privacy regulations, client Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs), jurisdiction-specific retention requirements, and legal hold processes in partnership with Litigation Support and the Office of General Counsel.
  • Analyze how information systems are utilized across the Firm, identify opportunities for process improvements, and provide guidance and training to attorneys, business professionals, and leadership on information governance best practices.

 

Requirements for Information Governance Manager:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 7+ years of Information Governance, Records Management, Compliance, or Risk Management experience within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of information lifecycle management, records retention, and defensible disposition.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 governance, document management systems (iManage preferred), and information governance technologies.
  • Working knowledge of privacy regulations including GDPR and U.S. data privacy laws.
  • Demonstrated project management and change management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across all organizational levels.
  • Professional certifications such as IGP, CRM, CIP, or PMP are highly desirable.
