How much do medical device cfd jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 7, 2026, the average yearly pay for medical device cfd in the United States is $93,015.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $85,500.00 and $110,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some typical challenges faced by Medical Device CFD engineers when simulating complex biomedical flows?

Medical Device CFD engineers often encounter challenges such as accurately modeling complex, patient-specific geometries and simulating non-Newtonian fluid behaviors found in blood flow. They must also ensure that simulations adhere to strict regulatory standards and validation requirements. Collaborating with clinicians and device designers to interpret results and iterate designs is common, requiring strong communication skills and a multidisciplinary approach. These challenges make it essential for engineers in this role to stay current with the latest simulation software and validation techniques.

What is the difference between Medical Device Cfd vs Medical Device Technician?

AspectMedical Device CfdMedical Device Technician
CertificationsRegulatory and compliance certifications, often including FDA and ISO standardsTechnical certifications, such as biomedical equipment technician (BMET) certifications
Work EnvironmentDesign, development, and regulatory compliance settings, often in offices or labsMaintenance, repair, and installation in hospitals or clinics
Employer & Industry UsageMedical device manufacturing companies, regulatory agenciesHospitals, medical equipment service providers

While both roles involve working with medical devices, Medical Device Cfd focuses on design, compliance, and regulatory aspects, whereas Medical Device Technicians handle installation, maintenance, and repair. Understanding these differences helps professionals choose the right career path or job focus within the medical device industry.

What is a Medical Device CFD specialist?

A Medical Device CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) specialist is an engineer or scientist who uses computer simulations to analyze and predict fluid flow and related physical phenomena in medical devices. This role is essential in designing and optimizing devices such as inhalers, blood pumps, stents, and ventilators to ensure they perform safely and efficiently. They work closely with biomedical engineers and product designers to validate device performance and support regulatory submissions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Medical Device CFD Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Medical Device CFD Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or biomedical engineering, with expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CFD software such as ANSYS Fluent or COMSOL Multiphysics, as well as experience with CAD tools and possibly regulatory standards like ISO 13485, is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and interpreting complex data. These skills ensure accurate simulation, compliance with safety standards, and the successful development of innovative medical devices.
