Job description

East River Medical Imaging, PC is an independent physician-owned radiology practice serving patients and referring providers for over fifty years. With locations on Manhattan’s Upper East Side and White Plains in Westchester County, East River Imaging is known for diagnostic expertise, advanced technology, high-quality imaging services, and a warm, caring environment. Our team is dedicated to personalized, compassionate care that puts patients at ease and builds trusted, lasting relationships.

East River Medical Imaging is now hiring an experienced Controller to join our leadership team. In this role, you will deliver accounting and financial management and oversight for the practice. Your work alongside fellow managers supporting our commitment to operational excellence and exceptional patient care through comprehensive financial reporting, planning, and robust financial controls.

Position Summary: Controller

The Controller will serve as the senior-most finance and accounting leader for East River Medical Imaging and will be responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, treasury, and financial operations of the organization. Reporting directly to the CEO with a dotted-line relationship to the physician ownership group, the Controller will provide financial leadership and operational support across the practice’s multiple imaging center locations and service lines.

This role will oversee two accounting staff members as well as the Director of Revenue Cycle and will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial reporting, supporting operational decision-making, managing financial controls, and partnering with leadership on strategic and operational initiatives. The Controller will operate in a hands-on capacity within a lean organizational structure and will be expected to participate in both strategic financial planning and day-to-day financial management activities.

    • Two Accounting Staff Members
    • Director of Revenue Cycle (Possible)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, payroll coordination, and financial reporting
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Coordinate annual financial statement reviews and tax filings with external CPA firms and advisors
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable healthcare-related financial reporting requirements

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts and working capital analysis
  • Prepare financial models and operational analyses to support leadership decision-making
  • Analyze operational performance, profitability, reimbursement trends, and expense management opportunities
  • Develop and maintain KPI and management reporting dashboards for executive leadership and physician partners

Revenue Cycle & Operational Finance

  • Provide financial oversight and partnership to the Director of Revenue Cycle
  • Meet regularly with A/R leadership to review metrics and evaluate progress with collections, reimbursement trends, denial metrics, payer mix, and revenue integrity initiatives
  • Collaborate with operational leadership to improve financial processes and operational efficiencies
  • Support physician compensation reporting and productivity analysis
  • Assist with vendor negotiations, capital expenditure analysis, and contract review activities

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Oversee utilization and optimization of Sage 50 accounting software and related financial systems
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and financial reporting enhancements
  • Maintain appropriate accounting controls and documentation procedures
  • Support future system upgrades or financial infrastructure improvements as needed

Leadership & Management

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members
  • Establish departmental priorities and ensure timely completion of financial deliverables
  • Serve as a key financial resource and business partner to executive leadership and physician ownership
  • Support strategic growth initiatives, expansion opportunities, and operational improvement projects

Payroll / Benefits / Human Resources

  • Supervise bi-weekly and periodic payroll processing to ensure accuracy
  • Oversee timekeeping including employee attendance records and system updates, ensuring accurate record-keeping and adherence to relevant labor laws and data privacy regulations.
  • Evaluate the company's health and retirement programs to recommend options to ensure employee compensation remains competitive.
  • Provide support for Human Resource efforts, including policy setting, conflict resolution, and assisting employees and management with inquiries related to workplace policies, performance reviews, and training opportunities.

Profit Sharing Plan

  • Responsible for overall plan administration, including maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, overseeing employee and employer contributions, and ensuring timely communication with all stakeholders.
  • Act as liaison between company management and plan participants, facilitating the resolution of questions or concerns and providing updates on plan changes or benefits.
  • Interface with the plan recordkeeper, third-party administrator (TPA), and investment advisor to ensure accurate plan management, timely reporting, and proper handling of participant accounts.
  • Works directly with auditors and TPA to coordinate and complete the annual Form 5500 submission.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA strongly preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Prior healthcare industry experience required
  • Experience within physician practice management, radiology, imaging center, ambulatory healthcare, or multi-site healthcare services environments strongly preferred
  • Prior supervisory and management experience required
  • Experience overseeing monthly close, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, payroll and benefits and financial reporting functions
  • Experience working with Sage 50 or similar mid-market accounting/ERP systems preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Working knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and revenue cycle operations
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial analysis skills
  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, physician partners, operational management, and external advisors
  • Hands-on management style with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced healthcare environment
