Position Summary:
This position supports the AAPC Medical Billing and Coding program under the Continuing Education and Workforce Development Healthcare Careers Department. The adjunct instructor prepares students for the AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Biller (CPB) exam through didactic classroom instruction and facilitation of online material. Instructors evaluate students by a variety of means to measure progress in achieving course objectives and skills mastery and inform students of their progress.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Conduct organized classes at the instructional level to meet the educational requirements stated in the AAPC course description and objectives.
2. Guide students through AAPC course curriculum through in classroom instruction and online as needed.
3. Be available via email and phone throughout the week to answer student questions regarding online content
4. Evaluate the progress of each student; notify students of progress
5. Prepare students for AAPC Certification exams
6. Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community
7. Participate in appropriate professional development activities to assure currency in both discipline, knowledge and instructional methods
Required Minimum Qualifications:
1. Related professional experience or appropriate professional licensure in content area or closely related field
2. Must have CPB (for medical billing course instruction) and CPC and CPC-I certifications (for medical coding course instruction)
Desired Qualifications:
1. Associates degree or higher
2. 5 years' experience in billing and coding field or coding instruction
3. Previous teaching experience (classroom or professional/corporate training)
4. Experience using Blackboard LMS and PowerPoint
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills
6. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
