Advanced Practice Provider – UAB Perioperative Assessment, Consult & Treatment Clinic – PRN

Work schedule: PRN – irregular shifts, non‑benefitted.

To provide medical care and treatment within the established scope of practice to medical services patients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician according to the Alabama Board of Nursing Administrative Code (Section 610‑X‑5) or the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners Administrative Code (Section 540‑X‑7). The collaborating physician shall be available for direct communication for consultation and referral, or arrange for the same medical coverage by a pre‑approved physician in the same manner as the collaborating physician of record.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the plan of care, discharge, and specialty referrals as appropriate to meet the age‑specific needs of the patient.
  • Plan and coordinate health‑care education for patient, family, and other health‑care providers as needed.
  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.
  • Interpret, analyze, and evaluate the patient’s medical record and social data.
  • Perform and/or assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement.
  • Coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.

The Advanced Practice Providers work in collaboration with attending anesthesiologists to ensure all patients are fit to undergo anesthesia, addressing blood‑pressure control, glycemic management, cardiac testing needs, and other disease processes that may affect the body’s response to anesthesia.

Eligible advanced practice providers: Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult Primary Nurse Practitioner, Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and Physician Assistant.
