Job description

Medical Receptionist

Summary

Under supervision of the Practice Manager and in collaboration with other team members, provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with professional standards of care, state regulations and accreditation standards.

Reports to the Practice Manager

Typical Duties

  1. Greet and attend to patients in person and over the phone.
  2. Professionally assist doctors, staff, visitors and patients.
  3. Maintain business inventory such as checking supplies, scheduling equipment and maintenance repairs.
  4. Answer all phone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
  5. Perform all duties within HIPAA regulations.
  6. Maintain confidentiality of all doctor, staff and patient information.
  7. Schedule appointments between doctors and patients.
  8. Liaise between medical departments with discretion and professionalism
  9. Assist with admissions/treatment as per agreed protocols.
  10. Ensure that stock levels are adequate and orders are made timeously.
  11. Communicate medical results to patients under clinical supervision.
  12. Complete accurate documentation of patient visits.
  13. Enter Checkout information into EMR
  14. Create new patients charts ensuring accurate and complete information
  15. Add patient insurance information to patient charts
  16. Take copies of insurance cards during patient visit and input into the EMR system
  17. Ensure a checkout sheet is completed for the patient during each visit, and the patient has all educational information upon completion of their visit.
  18. Ensure all information in the EMR system is current upon each check in, and change outdated information as needed.
  19. Fix insurance errors as they are noted by the billing staff
  20. Call patients prior to appointments to verify the appointment date and time. Notate all communications with the patient.
  21. Check voicemail system each morning. Forward messages that need to be forwarded and return phone calls as necessary.
  22. Views patients in the hospital system and moves patient information to the DocsInc program for billing. Adds new patient's information to the EMR system.
