Job description

Medical Assistant

As an integral member of the Medical Services team at The Wellness Center, the Medical Assistant provides both clinical and administrative support to physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. This position plays a vital role in ensuring efficient clinic operations by supporting direct patient care, assisting with medical procedures, maintaining regulatory and infection control standards, and providing exceptional customer service to a diverse student population. The Medical Assistant functions as an essential member of the interdisciplinary care team while maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to all applicable healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.

Duties/Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care (60%)

  • Performs patient check-in, vital signs, height, weight, medication reconciliation, allergy review, and documents past medical history.

Clinical Care (15%)

  • Perform a variety of clinical support functions, e.g., in-house point of care testing, administering immunizations, obtaining consent, EKGs, phlebotomy, wheelchair transport, crutch fitting, applying splints, peak flow measurement, spirometry, procedure set-up and assistance, inputting medical information in EMR, limited patient education, etc

Administration (15%)

  • Perform various administrative tasks; register patients for their visits, e.g., assign faxes, make appointments, scan documents, answer phone/check voicemail, send/receive faxes, receive prior authorization for medications/imaging orders, obtain credit card/cash/check payments.

Quality Checks (10%)

  • Maintain clinical areas, receive and organize supplies, stock exam rooms, record refrigerator temp daily, general equipment maintenance, perform infection control procedures, and perform required quality assurance checks on point of care testing, etc.

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • High School
  • One (1) year of medical/clinical assistant experience in a healthcare facility.

Required Licenses & Certifications:

  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant
  • Must be BLS/CPR certified

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Previous EHR experience.
  • Proficient computer skills required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
