Job description

Schedule: This is a full-time, Monday-Friday position with a consistent schedule during standard business hours.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting healthcare professionals in providing patient care, performing administrative duties, and ensuring smooth clinic operations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Medical Assistant I:

  • Greet patients courteously and escort them to exam rooms obtaining pertinent information, which may include obtaining vital signs, weight, height, health history, and symptoms.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures by taking vital signs and recording medical histories.
  • Assist healthcare providers during examinations and treatments.
  • Prepare examination rooms for patient visits, including cleaning, sterilizing, and stocking supplies.
  • Prep patient charts for clinic.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient information in the electronic health records (EHR) system.
  • Schedule patient appointments and follow-up visits.
  • Maintain optimum patient flow by keeping exam rooms occupied with patients for office visits.
  • Dispense durable medical equipment as needed.
  • Dispose of biohazardous wastes according to OSHA standards.
  • Clean, disinfect and/or sterilize instruments and equipment following safety and OSHA standards.
  • Based on need and direction, provide patients with written department visit policies, HIPAA Rights, medical literature, etc.
  • Provide office coverage during vacations, absences, and/or breaks and lunches.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient account information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and NMOA policy.
  • Accompany patients to radiology when applicable
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Medical Assistant II

In addition to the Medical Assistant I duties:

  • Perform more advanced clinical procedures as permitted by state regulations and under the supervision of healthcare providers.
  • Provide patient education on medical conditions, treatments, and preventive care.
  • Process prescriptions and refill requests, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures, wound care management, and cast removal.
  • Prepare injections.
  • Compile and disperse surgery packets.
  • Schedule patient surgeries and procedures efficiently.
  • Coordinate patient referrals to specialists and other healthcare facilities.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers, ensuring effective communication and patient satisfaction.

Medical Assistant III

In addition to the Medical Assistant II duties:

  • Serve as a resource for healthcare providers and staff on medical assistant procedures, policies, and best practices.
  • Exhibit knowledge in multiple specialties.
  • Assist with application of casts, splints, and DME.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Travel to other sites may be required.
  • May be assigned to various providers and clinics, depending upon business need.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee must be able to safely lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds. Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computer. Requires vision correctable to 20/20 and hearing in the normal range for face-to-face and telephone contacts.

Works in a well-lit, ventilated and climate-controlled clinic environment. Fast-paced medical office environment involving contact and interaction with patients, physicians, and other clinical and clerical personnel. Conditions common to a clinic environment include but are not limited to communicable disease, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and toxic substances.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

This position is a safety-sensitive position. The use of marijuana is prohibited. Impairment by drugs or alcohol is also prohibited.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Tier 1: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Tier 2: Certification (e.g., CMA, RMA) preferred and 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Tier 3: Certification (e.g., CMA, RMA) required and 3+ years of progressive experience in medical assisting.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

CMA or RMA

Current CPR/BLS certification.
