Job description

Title: Medical Assistant

Status: Non-Exempt/FT

Location: New York, NY 10022 (1 Location)

Reports to: Business Manager

Time: 8:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday- Friday

SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting with the day to day delivery of patient care management. This position will report directly to the Business Manager. The Medical Assistant is a versatile team player who is able to maintain positive and effective relationships with providers, co-workers, while emphasizing patient-centered care and ensuring positive patient experiences. They will work closely with the MD and another medical assistant with administrative, clerical and clinical duties associated with a dermatology office.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical

● Take and update patient medical history into electronic medical record applications.

● Prepare patients for examination, and assist MD during the examination.

● Transcribe medical record documentation utilizing electronic medical record applications.

● Explain treatment procedures to patients.

● Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.

● Dispose of contaminated supplies, and sterilize medical instruments.

● Arrange examining-room instruments and equipment.

● Maintain inventory by placing orders, verifying receipt and auditing stock.

● Conduct sterilization of surgical instruments by use of autoclave.

● Keep waiting and examining rooms neat and clean.

● Ensures medical record compliance by self-documentation attestation.

● Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned.

Administrative

● Answer incoming calls and respond to voicemails.

● Schedule and confirm patient appointments.

● Greet and check in patients while confirming insurance status and visit purpose.

● Update and file patient medical records as required.

● Handle correspondence.

● Respond to inquiries made to email, patient portals and schedulers.

● Record billing information of services rendered, completing insurance forms and responding to insurance and other third-party inquiries.

● Collect patient payments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

● High School diploma or High School equivalent.

● CMA from an accredited school.

● Minimum 1 year in a medical environment as a Medical Assistant.

● Must demonstrate a high level of competency in the management of clinic patients.

● Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

● Excellent organization, interpersonal and customer service skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

● Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations that involve confidential and sensitive matters.

● Excellent attention to detail.

● Experience as a Medical Assistant in a dermatology setting is preferred.

WORKING STANDARDS AND CONDITIONS
