Their duties often include taking patient vital signs, preparing exam rooms, assisting with procedures, scheduling appointments, and maintaining patient records. Medical Assistant PSAs play a vital role in ensuring efficient patient care and smooth operation of healthcare facilities. They often serve as a primary point of contact between patients and medical staff, helping to coordinate care and answer patient questions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a medical assistant PSA?

To thrive as a Medical Assistant PSA (Patient Services Associate), you need knowledge of basic clinical procedures, medical terminology, and administrative skills, typically gained through a medical assistant training program or certification. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, scheduling software, and basic medical equipment is commonly required. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask are important for providing excellent patient service and supporting clinical teams.
