NMC is currently recruiting a MA in Northwestern Ortho. The position is full-time (80 hours bi-weekly), generally M-F 8:00a-4:30p. Hiring Range: $17.82 - $24.89 USD

MEDICAL ASSISTANT

JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant assists the Physician or Provider with daily operations of the clinic. Provides direct patient care rooming patients updating electronic health record, performing necessary ordered procedures and visit preparation. Assists in throughput of the clinic. Assists with order management and patient follow up.

PRE-REQUISITES:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. MA certification or LNA preferred

Experience: Prior patient care experience preferred.

Other: Excellent computer, interpersonal and organizational skills required. Able to problem solve and suggest improvements to work processes. Must perform work with a high level of accuracy. Previous experience with electronic medical records preferred. Must be willing to cross train to the Patient Access Representative role and perform clerical duties as needed, as well as cross train and assist in other departments within Physician Services.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports To: Director of Business Operations

Other Contacts: Director and Manager of Clinical Operations, Physician office staff, hospital employees, volunteers, patients, families, other health care providers

SCOPE:

Machinery or Equipment Used: computer, basic office equipment, basic patient monitoring equipment, pt transport devices and aides,

Physical Demands: Use proper body mechanics then assisting a patient, lift 30 lbs., frequent walking and standing

Working Conditions: Medical office setting with exam rooms, exposure to infectious diseases and contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.

Required Protective Equipment: PPE as patient condition and situation dictates

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs chart management

  • Organizes patient flow and confirms schedules
  • Collects appropriate data
  • Sends and receives patient information

2. Communicates with patients, team members, and management in an accurate and timely manner evidenced by:

  • Talks with and listens to patients/team members
  • Reports pertinent, concise information
  • Complete timely clinical documentation/order entry
  • Protects confidentiality of patient/colleagues

3. Manages self and resources effectively

  • Acknowledges limits of experience and capability
  • Identifies learning needs and seeks resources
  • Utilizes equipment and supplies appropriately
  • Maintain clean, orderly environment of care
  • Ensures traffic control in “sensitive areas”

  • Collects/integrates data from multiple sources
  • Incorporates appropriate skills in all interactions and delivery of care including
  • Perform and document pre-visit planning or appropriate pre-visit interview/process/evaluations to ensure accurate and timely information is obtained from patient and delivered to the health care provider

5. Perform duties as required to ensure compliance with ACO, PCMH or other regulatory or certification requirements

6. Demonstrates the clinic specific skills requisite for unit/patient population served

  • See clinic specific competencies
  • Perform administrative and certain clerical duties under the direction of a physician and/or advanced practice provider
  • Collects appropriate and accurate information from the patient, provider and insurance agencies to efficiently register a patient for a procedure or test with minimal errors
  • Uses computer systems accurately to complete registration and order review or retrieval
  • Recognizes the information needs specific to insurance providers/billing software, etc. to resolve and prevent issues
  • Requests and explain information in a manner that the patient can understand

7. Efficiently and accurately performs clinical duties to ensure quality service in support of NMC's mission of providing exceptional care to the community:

  • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations
  • Ensure patient rooms and instruments are cleaned after every patient visit to maintain infection control standards
  • Obtains patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight and reports findings to Physician or Advanced Practice Provider
